Many (but not all) train stations have bicycle lockers.

Also, you can take your bike onboard.

Typically cyclists stand in the areas designated for wheelchairs.

Summer's coming!

Yes, took these when I was visiting a few years ago. I’ve forgotten whether they were diesel or electric.

@ajsadauskas @jd They're electrical multiple units.

Typically, the trains are made up of two sets of four carriages, so eight carriages in total.

The train lines to Central Coast & Newcastle, Wollongong, and the Blue Mountains are also electrified.

Beyond the cluster of big cities in NSW […]

@ajsadauskas @DanielleVossebeld The trains in Sydney are the same size as the Dutch one. (They're slightly wider in Melbourne and narrower in Brisbane, but that's a story for another day!)

The difference is the seats and the aisle are slightly narrower. There are also no armrests between seats […]

@ajsadauskas Wow, 3 Seats next to eachother? Those trains are wide! Or Australians are quite small 😅

To anyone in Sydney, these photos will be very boring, but they might be interesting to people who live elsewhere.

This is what it looks like inside Sydney's double decker trains...

#rail #railway #railways #Train #trains #publictransit #publictransport #Sydney
Inside the upper level. The blue padded seats are arranged in a 2 - 3 configuration. The seats also change direction (from facing forwards to facing backwards) by pushing (or pulling) on the yellow handles. Different view inside the upper level. The seats on the lower level are in the same configuration. Note the bottom of the window on the lower level just below the level of the platform. The entryway where you board the carriage (the doors are to the left and right of this photo). You board at platform level, then walk up or down the stairs to reach the upper or lower level. There are seats at this level designated for people with disabilities. You can move between carriages. There's an information display that shows which line you're on and upcoming stations. A network map is posted on the walls near the doors.

The Barangaroo and Sydney CBD skyline at night, as seen from Pyrmont.

The lit up glass towers as seen from a harbourfront promenade in Pyrmont, with a lense flare off a street light. The city skyline peeks over a harbourside warehouse that has been converted into apartments.

We had something similar happen in a nearby electorate.

The twist was that a local $2 shop had obtained a whole stack of these bags after the election and were using them when customers bought stuff 🤣

Does anyone know if these universities were expressly authorised to use Engineers Australia's logo and intellectual property in connection to their claims?

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds to me like perhaps it might not just be the students who might have grounds for a lawsuit here...

I am increasingly baffled...and alarmed.

What is the value of citations--one of the primary ways academics are judged--if they are generated through #AI #slop?

#AcademicSky #Academia
screenshot of the paragraph in which my research on traffic impact assessment is cited. The text reads: "Adaptation is an effort to modify movement patterns to suit specific requirements, such as adjusting, changing, rearranging, revising, and adding variations. Meanwhile, origination is creating new movement patterns to suit certain situations or problems, such as designing, composing, building, creating, constructing, and creating something new (Combs, McDonald, and Leimenstoll 2023)."

Reader, I can assure you there is nothing in my paper that would lead any reasonable (or honestly, any unreasonable) human to draw that citation from it.

My paper on traffic impact assessment being cited in a literature review on using #AI to build a case for spiritual and religious awakening (I think?) was not the citation alert I was expecting this morning.
