This article heavily implies that ICE is being used in a custody dispute to help Karoline Leavitt's brother get his son and have the mother locked up in ICE detention
"A woman with a family connection to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Revere, Massachusetts."

Viola Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, has died. She was 111.

"I have lived through the massacre every day. Our country may forget this history, but I cannot," she told Congress in 2021.

Geoff Bennett has more.

For some reason my brain just recalled the smell/taste of a mcdonald's cheeseburger like really viscerally. i have not eaten a mcdonald's cheeseburger since, like... 1994.

My breakfast this week is egg scramble with veggies and extra egg whites & oh man is it not that good. I usually use the whites leftover from ice cream making in Swiss meringue buttercream. I thought I’d use them to augment protein. Prior tactic was far, far better

AR-PHARAZÔN THE GOLDEN: What you have to remember also is he appeared in fair form.

CHOTINER: The next time the invasion of Valinor and the destruction of Númenor come up, I'll keep in mind that Sauron was handsome when it happened.

AR-PHARAZÔN: He was. Not that that excuses it.

CHOTINER: Right.

i don't mind when people share, like, pretty wild stuff with me ("trauma dump" all you want) but if you start talking about weighted blankets or silent meditation retreats i want to crawl out of my skin

The funny thing about people offering “non-toxic” solutions to health problems is you have no clue how many plant things will just give me hives

My alma mater for my undergrad, where I studied English & French but took creative writing courses, was Guelph. At the risk of it seeming like i'm centring myself here, this is the *second* creative writing professor I studied with directly who has been involved in a national scandal.

i received a "buy some amazon book reviews" email that should have gone to a totally different Andrea Bennett. which is not as funny as one time showing up to a festival & finding her books for sale instead of mine, lol.

This is one of those things where if someone presses me I might do an accidental service to sober people by unfurling whatever particular traumatic substance-related corner of my history comes immediately to mind. (Just leave me & my Diet Coke alone!)
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.
