“Righting this historical wrong is inconvenient for me and I am feeling some anxiety I will express as anger.” okay buddy, you process that alone or with a friend & come back when you’re ready for some self-reflexive honesty

I am so tired of people calling things divisive when what they mean is that they were more comfortable when other people were just being silently oppressed and they didn’t have to hear about it or change anything

am unfortunately familiar with that one!

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Definitely crisp time! Galas definitely do stay firmer. (You could try a mix?)

the future of apples is leaving them as-is! honestly i can't believe i didn't give up sooner

Interesting! Could be down to apple type, oven temp, cooking them too long, or adding ingredients that macerate them (like sugar) pre-cooking. You could experiment with adjusting these elements? We grow something like galas, so honestly I have the opposite problem & add macerating elements.

(If you have texture stuff it's worth trialling before committing but if not—less time, more fibre.)

Also: I tested out skin-on apple crisp this weekend & it's absolutely fine! No need to peel apples for crisp.

if you don't want to put the effort into caramelizing onions on the stovetop & you still want a caramelized onion vibe in a sandwich or a galette, you can just quarter them & roast them in the oven

My average heart rate while swimming this morning was > 20 bpm higher than usual because I was swimming alone & half my brain was absolutely convinced today was the day we’d find our worst fear in the lake.

NEW: I teamed up with @castanetkamloops.net to write this long in-depth account of Reid Hamer-Jackson's three years as mayor of Kamloops. I also talked to the unrepentant mayor for two hours.

A wellness type person who recently moved back to the area I live appears to be angling to enter the local municipal politics fray. Today she shared a long post likening the world domination board game Risk to municipal politics. Very normal stuff!

Yes! (My partner arrived home today & picked the rest of the apples & dealt with the bear-y messy situation while I was working this afternoon, thankfully. Generally we really do pick & use the fruit. This year has just... sucked.)
