NEW: I teamed up with @castanetkamloops.net to write this long in-depth account of Reid Hamer-Jackson's three years as mayor of Kamloops. I also talked to the unrepentant mayor for two hours.

Mayor of Chaos: How Kamloops Politics Became Infamous | The Tyee
Car dealer Reid Hamer-Jackson won office with charisma and ideas. Then the wheels came off.

Here's the Lillooet one: You have a road bridge going over a canal which itself then goes over a creek, all of which is beside a spawning channel and a river and a railroad.

Other than the one near Lillooet, does anyone know of any other water-over-water overpasses in B.C.?

This is gross, but for Canadians, what purpose does it serve to antagonize the guy right now?

Very sad to hear about the passing of Comox Valley Record editor Terry Farrell, who died yesterday from cancer. Terry was a lovely person, an ardent Oilers fan, and spent his final year documenting his appreciation for all of life's joys, big and small. He will be very missed by his colleagues.

I like how the “artistic rendering” is just the photo example with the real gondolas replaced by cartoon gondolas. Helpful!
Image 1 shows an ‘artistic rendering of the SkyPod Experience’, while Image 2 sows a “photo example of SkyPod Experience.” Both images are the same, but Image 1 has replaced the real gondolas with cartoon drawn versions.

One of Rustad's (many) problems is that he himself is evidence that getting kicked from caucus can potentially be good for your career.

Meanwhile in #BCpoli, John Rustad just survived a caucus revolt
@jasjohal

The latest…

Around 7:15 tonight, there was a push for a secret ballot vote during caucus. Caucus Chair Jody Toor and Whip Bruce Banman - both Rustad loyalists - pushed back on the request. Even after further objections, the vote was blocked from taking place. #bcpoli #vanpoli

This debacle, I should note, is not going over too well with BC staff. (If you're up with talking, get in touch. I still would like to do a "What's up with Carpenter Media story," but the company has never returned any emails.)

When I turned 30 I had not yet written my first published book or my first published novel and did not know (or know of) some of the most important people in my life. I didn't know how much my life could still change, and did, after the age of 30. There is so much your life still yet to live.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

I agree with this, but this person should review the past posts on my timeline to see how many people are absolutely and irrationally committed to the idea that America, right now, is under fascist control.
mefcorv.bsky.social
I don’t think people are claiming that the country itself is fascist; they are claiming that the *administration* is fascist and is attempting to install fascism. There’s a really important distinction. One is about intent, the other is about success rate.

Ones in Kamloops/Chilliwack have plenty of vegetables and meats.

Legit supermarket stuff, but other than, like, cucumbers, not particularly cheaper than my remote Buy-Low, as far as I can tell. (Which probably says something about the margins on fresh food goods).
tyolsen.bsky.social
Ah. See the Walmarts I know of all have produce now. I haven't been to the rupert one though
tyolsen.bsky.social
It depends, I think. Looking at the other Rupert grocery options (Safeway + Save-On), it probably functions that way for a lot of dry food goods, since it tends to be a lot cheaper on those.

Similarly, we need to remind people of why speech itself has generally proven to be the best antidote to bad speech.

When someone says something dumb and horrible, consequences are possible without laws!
