game dev kinda

telling you i have multiple side projects would be assuming have a main project
Pinned
Here's the only project I've ever released:

Goldfish, a short game/proof of concept I made in a week attempting to simulate the childhood fear of walking around in the dark after lights out by touching things to form a mental map that you forget with time.

hey friendly advice if youre ever thinking to yourself "oh ill just quickly look at that new factory game update that just came out" the only thing you should actually be doing quickly is going outside before the next 14 days of your life suddenly disappear before your eyes

No progress update this week, I was away from home babysitting chickens instead of programming lmao

It did give me some time to work on some design stuff, which was good since until now I've just been working on the project on the fly but now I'm at the stage now where I need concrete direction

Managed to convert the pet controller to a rigidbody system, so now they can be picked up and carried and flung around

Also squeezed in a genetics/reproduction system before getting super sick and being knocked out for the rest of the week

Stress testing is fun though

If you had a terrarium full of little creatures living on your PC's desktop, what would you do with them? What sorts of systems and interactions would you like to see in a game like this?

I gonna add ALL suggested features so there's something for everyone

I added an option to disable the background transparency and now it looks like one of those fake operating systems you see in random TV shows

Added a goal oriented AI system to the pets so they can think for themselves now, and to keep an eye on their new behaviors I added a button that seamlessly transitions from the desktop to a fullscreen 1st-person mode so you can chat with them and explore their world

Wanted to get some UI programming practice in so I spent the last week putting together a rough prototype for a game about looking after little creatures that live in a crystal ball on your desktop with a sort of TCG-esque menu aesthetic and now I'm kinda obsessed with it

im a few minor features away from connecting all the main systems and finally closing up the main gameplay loop in my current project, but these minor features are causing me more grief than the big things, not from a technical perspective but cause i cant make up my mind on how i want them to work

recently each little change to a system i make has been feeling like a mountain of work

did some reading and turns out its just a result of my dogshit architecture which i couldnt recognise cause know nothing about good code architecture practices
