Ultimately, 20mph zones create more liveable places. Quieter, safer, better for walking and cycling... As Salisbury continues to grow, let’s make sure that safety grows with it. -Cllr Sam Charleston www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/2545159...

Earlier this week I had the privilege, as deputy mayor, of being a distinguished guest at one of the regular Citizenship Ceremonies held in Salisbury. We welcomed eleven new British Citizens from eleven different countries. A fun and happy morning was had by all!

I had a really productive time at the Wiltshire Climate and Environment Summit Business Day last Friday, including seeing the new electric Refuse Collection Vehicle currently being trialled by Wiltshire Council. It was great to see so many Wiltshire-based businesses represented.

I had the pleasure of representing the Mayor at the launch event for Salisbury Musick. This is a new three-day festival between 3rd and 5th October celebrating early music, bringing together local musicians and visiting professionals.

New three-day music festival will celebrate city’s musical history
It is inspired by the annual three-day music festivals in Salisbury that took place in the 18th century and attracted leading performers of the time.

Liberal Democrats will keep fighting until we can finally build a society where everyone is free to be who they are.

In GE2019, the Tories got 56% of seats on 44% of the votes. In GE2024, Labour got 63% of seats on 34% of the votes.

We need to change this system so that seats match votes - voters should get the MPs and policies they vote for.

Too many lives in the LGBTQ+ community have been blighted by discrimination and hate.

Liberal Democrats will always stand up against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.

And we'll fight for fair society where everyone’s rights and dignity are upheld.

We need to fix our trading relationship with Europe to turbocharge our economy and protect Britain from Trump’s trade war.

We believe in Britain's future. And we believe that future is brighter, stronger and more prosperous when we work more closely with Europe.

Emily Maitlis is spot on. We shouldn’t treat Reform Ltd as a new phenomenon…it’s the same party, the same leaders that have done so much damage to this country already…

My first week as a unitary councillor has so far been trying to soak up as much info as possible from the multitude of induction sessions provided by our officers.

During WWII my grandfather was based in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) with the RN for two years & my uncle flew with the RAF in North Africa and Italy. Thankfully both came back. Many didn’t. We should not forget the sacrifice made by so many to turn the tide against fascism and authoritarianism.

80 years ago, Britain celebrated victory in Europe.

Today, we remember with gratitude all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their tomorrows for our todays.
