I don’t think I’ve ever been angrier reading anything on the show. Something about seeing this really got to me, it’s shown how many people are misinformed and, worse still, how many more are willing to emphatically agree and endorse nonsensical misinformation. A moment of shame for all involved.
Here’s this week’s Better Offline monologue. I walk you through why Matt Shumer’s “Something Big Is Coming” is deceptive misinformation peddled by a grifter, and why everybody who boosted or republished it should be ashamed of themselves.

Do wages drive inflation, or does inflation drive wages? A new paper for Switzerland finds inflation strongly influences wage growth, but wages have only a weak effect on prices. Inflation is driven more by imports, expectations, and economic slack than by wage pressures.

😬Yikes! It sounds bad when you say it like that!

"Black women are losing jobs at 3 times the rate."

Much better! Makes it sound like the Black women just need to be more careful or better at their jobs!

Under Trump, the USDA *wildly* underestimated the amount of corn that was harvested by US farmers in 2025.

This has been attributed by experts to be a direct result of massive staffing cuts.

Now, nobody in agriculture trusts USDA estimates and this could have disastrous effects.
