IF YOU ARE A KID IN AUSTRALIA PLEASE DO YOUR BEST THIS DECEMBER TO MAKE THE AGE VERIFICATION OF SOCIAL MEDIA INTO AN EMBARRASSING TRAIN WRECK OF POLICY.

YOU WILL BE DOING THE WORLD A FAVOUR.
EU Parliament passes non-binding resolution: social media banned for under-13s, under-16s need parental consent.

Pushes mandatory age verification + bans on addictive algorithms and loot boxes for minors.

Good take. The effective leaking of this information (blatantly illegal under Article 25(2) GDPR) was only useful because it was unexpected. Going forward, it's kinda useless, while compromising user privacy, especially of those in authoritarian regimes which may use this info to target any dissent.

X/Twitter exposing user location in such a safety-positive way makes a modest dent in the EU’s approach to protecting personally-identifiable information

The one that would mandate secure software by law with the threat of fines for failing adhere the rules, or the current one requiring software be made insecure by order of the Home Secretary with the threat of prison for failing to comply?

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

It will almost certainly trigger a competition probe. Another major moment coming for Lisa Nandy as culture secretary.
