I just finished translating Lily Hoang’s A Bestiary. A book I’ve wanted to publish since 2018. I first came across it by chance, near a book swap, as happens with the best reads. It’s a book that turns pain into a poetic meditation on the complexity of modern life. Can’t wait to see it out in Italy.

Back from the Chennai Book Fair, and what a revelation the Tamil language has been, where letters are soul and body (uyir and mei), forming "embodied letters" (uyirmei). It was a beautiful encounter with a different way of dwelling in words.

Narrative voice oscillates between intimate interiority and expansive collective consciousness, suggesting alternative modes of perceiving individual experience as fundamentally interconnected and permeable. Theoretical intervention: reimagining subjectivity as ecological process.

Landscape functions not as backdrop but active phenomenological agent. Ecological intimacy becomes an epistemological method, deconstructing colonial subject/object binaries through immersive, sensorial narrative techniques that privilege processual becoming.

Performative textuality emerges through embedded musical/sonic metaphors. Piano preparation scenes literalize narrative's hybrid ontological mode - inserting external materialities into structured systems, generating unexpected resonances and transformative potentials.

Day's novel destabilizes linear subjectivity through Sarah Hutchinson's metamorphic consciousness, deploying a narrative structure that mirrors psychological fragmentation. Spatial transitions become metaphysical passages, challenging Western epistemological boundaries.

Gregory Day's "The Bell of the World" (Transit Lounge, 2023) interrogates spatial phenomenology through a polyvocal narrative, mapping embodied consciousness against the Australian landscape's transitional topographies. Formal fragmentation enacts phenomenological rupture and regeneration.

In the past two years alone I have translated 13 novels, all by terrific authors. But while completing Carolina Bello's El resto del mundo rima, I truly felt like a literary translator for the first time. I focused entirely on the text, setting aside concerns about my or the author's (amazing) voice
