We also have a surfeit of red onion, so am going to quick pickle a bunch of that today. (The weekly random veg/fruit subscription box is awesome but sometimes we end up with a lot of one thing.) 🍽️🍲
Banana bread baked and cooling on the counter. I thought we had about six apples so was planning to make a small apple crumble, but after poking around cupboards and the fridge found EIGHTEEN apples. So there's a supersized apple crumble in the oven now. 🍽️🍲

Today is Persons Day.
This day honours The Persons Case, which ended in a victory for The Famous Five on Oct. 18, 1929. The ruling declared women to be persons under the law and qualified to sit in the Senate.
This is the story of that case.

It’s a miserable weather day, so I’m going to spend the morning baking delicious things. Banana bread, candied pecans, some crackers made with sourdough discard, apple crumble, etc. Maybe some almond biscotti. Use up ingredients before they go off/get stale. 🍜🍽️
The best thing about living with boys who are blind to what’s in the fridge is that no one notices when I eat all the homemade rosemary-infused salted caramel sauce all by myself.
Starting my day late for a dentist appointment. Thursday, you go sit on the bad step.
Ooh and I already have your address!

It’s actually pretty bad for your mental health to know stuff
As I grow more and more disenchanted with social media, I wonder if any of my mutuals would be interested in old school letter writing?*
I used to write letters all the time and I miss it.

I don’t think so, but a lot of lease/rental agreements specifically prohibit firearms.
I always feel like a cunning peasant when I manage to turn ingredients into delicious meals. It’s alchemy. And when I don’t know what else to do (grief being overwhelming) I feed people. I show people I love them by making them food. Crisis or not, everyone’s gotta eat. 🍽️🍜
For today’s lunch I’m planning a tomato chèvre cobbler served with crackers and brie. There are leftovers of various meals in the fridge to keep my cousin going food-wise into the week. Used up most of the veg/fruit I brought and most of the perishables that were in the house when I arrived. 🍜🍽️
Apple cinnamon scones: half the batch baked and already mostly eaten, the other half in the freezer for cousins to bake whenever they wish. Roasted butternut squash soup simmering on the stove. Next up: Apple crumble or maybe apple sauce to go with the granola I made earlier in the week. 🍽️🍜
Out grabbing mochas because it’s Saturday morning and I want a treat. And then I will be a flurry of domesticness before I head to the ferry this afternoon.
Oh jeez, hope you are on the mend soonest!
This afternoon I head back to Vancouver after a week-ish of doing my best to be useful to my cousin in our grief. The world is a less good place without my aunt in it and that is just a truth we must live with. (I am looking forward to seeing my boys and sleeping in my own bed.)

In many ways, women and spiders have a great deal in common - independent, do a lot of work that isn't seen or valued, spend the autumn scuttling around in the shadows on our hairy legs looking for a mate before the winter sets in while people point at us and scream, etc.
A good day of work doing set visits today, and then back to the house to make mushroom risotto for dinner, which my cousin pronounced delicious. It’s the little things.
So happy for all the Jays fans in my feed. :)
