Writers need a Class Action to compensate for work which has already been taken? Who will lead this? I am very worried that there is a passive 'what can you do?' approach to this. Meta is guilty of the greatest heist ever seen - are we really just going to sit by and let this happen?
New research by @mctd.bsky.social shows the impact of generative AI on authors in the UK. They found over a third of novelists report their income has already been negatively impacted by AI and 85% expect their future income will be negatively impacted.

Authors in America ...... go for it! We are relying on you!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

What’s going on at @ox.ac.uk ? Last year we funded a successful challenge to their exploitative employment of teaching staff. This year we’re funding a case involving rape and sexual harassment.
The similarities? Oxford’s “culture” of denial.

Thanks so much. Yes @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social did a great job on this cover. As well as looking good it also cleverly represents several different aspects of the book.

The rest of us fund public services, he CHOSES not to. Yet we’re supposed to believe problems in the NHS are migrants’ fault? The utter cheek.

Enormously proud to be the new UK home of Beryl Bainbridge. In March 2026, we kick things off in earnest by publishing AN AWFULLY BIG ADVENTURE, with an intro by Yiyun Li, and THE BOTTLE FACTORY OUTING, with an intro by A. K. Blakemore. Ruthlessly smart, darkly comic, her novels are sharp-edged gems

Writers please spread far and wide. Six of my books were scraped by Meta (and the situation is much worse for many others). This cannot put right the past but it does enable readers to support publishers who value the work of actual writers. Thanks so much to those who have worked on this.
