I know too many younger trans adults whose parents don't accept them, and it breaks my heart to pieces.

To those parents:

Listen to your kids.

Believe your kids.

Love your kids unconditionally.

Educate yourself.

Join groups like PFLAG for support and resources.

Do better!

1. In a devastating new Pew Research Survey, only 3 in 10 transgender adults report being accepted by their parents.

And only 1 in 10 say they are accepted by their extended family.

This is the lowest number ever found in surveys asking similar questions.

Pew Survey: Only 31% Of Trans People Report Being Accepted By Their Parents
The survey comes as transgender people experience a legal assault from the far-right in the United States.

Hey Texas! Or people with friends or family in Texas!

Dr. Strong taught us at @authorsabb.bsky.social how to get involved in school board elections.

If you care about books bans you have to care about school boards. Dr. Strong is one of the best people to look to for example in this.

It's finally ready! October's most anticipated release, w/ the possible exception of The Life of a Showgirl, is The Book-Loving Texan's Guide to the November School Board Elections. If you hate book bans, read this to know who to vote for and who to campaign against! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

If you worked on something today, congratulate yourself: Childcare, answering emails, physical therapy, writing, watering plants.

Anything you did, go ‘head & remind yourself you survived another day & that’s a gracious plenty, given what’s happening.

Let’s not take our survival for granted.

I checked in with AABB headquarters. Once you have a contract in hand and a book officially announced, you can join.

There are other organizations to join in the meantime, such as @uabookbans.bsky.social. Some states also have freedom to read coalitions to join.

If you're not a published author or illustrator, there are other organizations you can join or subscribe to if you want to help protect the freedom to read. @uabookbans.bsky.social is one. @flfreedomread.bsky.social and @txfreedomread.bsky.social are major organizations to follow in those states.

You’ll now be able to get an updated coronavirus shot in every state without a prescription, according to the American Pharmacists Association.

CVS and Walgreens have stated you won’t need to attest to any underlying conditions and the questions will be removed from their online booking system.

Tonight Portland, OR, members of @authorsabb.bsky.social gathered together to write postcards to librarians and school board members as part of Banned Books Week . . . but every week is a good week to take action to protect the freedom to read.

A postcard that says "Authors Against Book Bans, authorsagainstbookbans.com" is held in front of the camera. In the background, an author who's against book bans is filling out postcards at a table full of postcards and writing supplies. The author is wearing a blue shirt with blurry white writing.

I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon
