My quote of the day

We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces.

This is a dialogue in which I took part shortly after going public months ago, and I’d urge you to watch the whole thing, but I want to highlight something I said at then end when an audience member asked, with sorrow and frustration, what citizens can do in this era to fight authoritarianism.

ICE currently has a code of professional conduct. Among other things, it requires agents to be "professional, police, respectful, considerate, helpful and patient in all official activities ... even in the face of considerable provocation."
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the party agreed on three main goals:

° Require warrants in some cases and ICE coordination with state and local law enforcement

° Create a code of conduct and enforce it

° Require agents to wear body cams and not masks
Democrats demand new ICE restrictions as government shutdown looms
After federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Senate Democrats say they’ll block a massive government funding package without policy changes.

"In order to build tyranny, you have to open zones where the law doesn't apply... one zone like that is the border. The logic of what they've been doing with ICE is to take the border everywhere."

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Alex Pretti served veterans heroically.

And the VA Hospital where he worked should be named after him.

Metaphor in two posts:
A prosecutor indicts an arsonist. The arsonist escapes. The arsonist burns down the home of the prosecutor. Then he burns down the homes of the prosecutors’ staff, friends & relatives. Then he burns down the homes of everyone he thinks has ever crossed him. ...

Indie game Stardew Valley has a new villain, who apparently escaped from one of the deep caves.

My (adult) son's closet is 80% full of SDV t-shirts, wears them 5 days a week; he will explode when he sees this. My advice: Don't piss off the millions of SDV fans around the world. Won't end well.

Trump is not omnipotent. He exists within a web of institutions. His authority is not unlimited. It appears that way largely because his allies occupy key places — Congress — that could provide a meaningful check. Important to understand his actual reach and the limits of that reach. (14/14)

I will be blind for life. I have fractures in my skull that they can't fix. I can't sneeze or cough bc it's dangerous to. They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. I had shards of metal, glass, and plastic behind my eye and in my skull. They said it was a miracle I survived.

Trump is an authoritarian punishing his enemies and crushing dissent. Legacy institutions are refusing to stand up. He is already threatening free and fair elections in 2026.

Food rationing. Oh joy.
Brooke Rollins: "We've run over 1,000 simulations. It can cost around $3 a meal for a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, corn tortilla, and one other thing. So there is a way to do this that actually will save the average American consumer money."
