Choosing HC as my first book in a quest of Actually Reading More Authors For The First Time In Years is genius bc Maria Ying is in fact TWO authors at once! And going outside the official stuff then lands two MORE authors. It's like padding out sentences in essays to meet the word count :D

ZC *and* Flower of the Underworld should be arriving Tuesday! Unsure which I'll read first yet though, probably release order

To anyone who may wonder if the outrage against AI-gen slop is exclusive to their circles: I regularly hear my out of touch boomer father complaining about it being everywhere. Nobody wants this shit

And now: Amber has to endure two nights with nothing to read. This is fucked up.

I liked every chapter ofc, but the standout ones were those that focused on minor characters who sit outside the main handful in HC: Adrastus and Siproites, Madalithea and Celadion, Aphrodite's shenanigans, it's like a supplement that makes the world feel bigger, realer, worth fighting for

Okay so I guess to say something more substantial: Memory of Olympus is like a really big interlude between HC and PE, which is great bc as I said in my last thread I love the interlude chapters in HC

"I can't find any books centred around men" has OP considered like. opening her eyes

Yeah their whole thing is like. sometimes it's cute in the way that failboys are cute (I have one of my own and I like him a lot) but they really went all in on making him as awful with women as they could without him being a sex pest

"I watched all of Buffy for the first time 28 years later" would be one hell of a pitch to certain people

Read the whole thing in the space of two weeks when I was like 17, purely because I liked Undertale. It was alright

The funny thing about this is that the charm was hit and miss for me and the horny is all pandering to the straightest men alive so it didn't even have that in my experience

I could probably carve a niche out as a YouTuber whose gimmick is "was born to be a Tumblr girl during the height of its popularity but didn't even become a girl until age 23 and is now catching up on the things she missed"

Oh I should clarify, I don't think it's necessarily special or even on par, it's just "here's the things people like about westerns" in a way that's like. passable
ambernymph.bsky.social
Maybe I should look into watching Buffy next, this feels like trawling through ancient history

I think the most telling thing about this show that will stick with me is that Inara's demands to stop being called a whore by Reynolds are uniformly ignored, but the moment she calls him a petty thief he throws a fit and she has to apologise and console him. This is a recurring thing.

It's fun in all the ways you generally expect a western to be fun, with the only interesting thing about it being it's in space. It's a 2002 show so I'm not going to fault it for production value.

I will, however, fault it for the uncomfortably copious amounts of misogyny. Like holy shit

So my curiosity about Ye Olde Internet's obsession with Firefly got me to watch the whole season and uh. Yeah I don't get why Tumblr of all places mourned this being cancelled

The weird thing about growing up reliant on external validation for everything I do is that it's really easy to forget that I can be good at something without needing to have someone else confirm it
ambernymph.bsky.social
Oh shit I'm almost at the end of the book I need to get more reading material jvctfgjkv Zeus Constant here I come
