I've been covering Trump's retribution campaign since he came back to the White House. Then, that storyline came directly to my state - and what I've covered will stick in my brain forever. The children, the brutality, the isolation, the camaraderie and bravery. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

2026: The concentration camps don't INTEND to kill the (illegally detained) prisoners. The deaths are merely a by-product of neglect, rampant disease, inhumane conditions, refusal to provide medical care, beatings, retribution, and transfer to foreign torture prisons and third world war zones.
I got in SO MUCH trouble for this hugely viral tweet back in 2018 (from MAGA types mostly) but I stand by it (and in fact at the time the Auschwitz Museum defended me when people yelled at me that Auschwitz was a “death camp” not a concentration camp). My DENTIST congratulated me for this one

He tells us what he’ll do.
We laugh, then it happens.
He promised invasion; he invaded.
He promised troops at home; they’re here.
He promised retribution; prosecutors and investigators are now targets.
He seized ballots; he’s calling to seize elections.
This isn’t bluster; it’s a plan.
Stop laughing

Operation Metro Surge is not making Minnesota safer. Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, but we need a faster and larger drawdown of forces, state-led investigations into the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and an end to this campaign of retribution.
With the immediate removal of 700 federal agents from Minnesota, border czar Tom Homan put the total number of agents remaining in the state at approximately 2,000.

That’s still a dramatic increase from the normal immigration and enforcement staffing in Minnesota of around 150 agents.

Yesterday, in a blatantly partisan move, the White House instructed the US DOT & the CDC to cut $1.5 b in grants, exclusively in Blue states.

The grants appear to be being cut because they support poor neighborhoods, non-English speakers, queer people, or efforts to combat climate change.
