Two-tier American-style healthcare is not the solution.

Wait times, understaffing, and access issues won't be fixed by forcing people to pay to see a doctor.

Being a new PI at a new institution can be very lonely.

What tips can you give an extroverted introvert on building a network?

I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

Planning a project with a new medical student. They told me that they could work over the holidays if I needed them to.

I told them absolutely not. They are entitled to a rest and I would not be overstepping boundaries.

How wrong the weather forecasting is in Alberta. Pretty much every day.

Looks outside. It's actively raining.

"Hey Google, is it raining?"

Google: "Probably not. Right now in Calgary there is only a slight chance of rain"

Pet peeve: when someone invites you to a meeting but instead of sending a calendar invitation, they just send a zoom link in an email.

If you want profs to actually show up for meetings-- send a calendar invitation!

Many people dismissed the announcement Catholic hospitals will ban gender-affirming care nationwide under the assumption that there will be other options. In reality, Catholic hospitals make up as much 46% of options in some states. This map is 2020, prior to Trump’s assault on safety net hospitals.

This is historically a major problem for women needing emergency abortions.

Catholic hospitals have a long history of turning women away or forcing women to wait until somebody doesn't have a heartbeat...even if the fetus is not going to survive.

The problem here is lack of funding in rural

Paper gets 2 positive reviews & 1 very critical one

Authors work very very hard on R&R

Journal sends it back to critical reviewer (only) and 1 new reviewer

Critical reviewer is quite positive about revision

New reviewer is negative

Editor sits on reviews for 1 month, then rejects

Authors sad
