Definitely a great way to exude more seriousness is to change the name from "Loan Program Office" to "Energy Dominance Finance" I mean for sure it's just so super serious

“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

My talk from #positconf 2025 is now up! I got to introduce our survey platform and #rstats package #surveydown. It's been a fun project with @pingfanhu.bsky.social & Bogdan Bunea, and I hope it can be useful for the community of survey researchers out there!

Thanks to this bussin new #rstats 📦 by @hadley.nz,
you can now yeet rows and vibe_check columns in your data frames, no cap

dplyr but make it bussin fr fr no cap
`genzplyr` is an alternative syntax for `dplyr` that replaces boring old function names with GenZ slang. Your data wrangling is about to hit different.

Some noted that the BEV ranges in my article were unadjusted (China's CLTC cycle over-estimates range compared to the U.S.'s EPA cycle). So I now have an interactive app that allows you to explore how the main scatterplot looks with an adjustment factor:

As an #rstats user, I am proud of my #python brothers and sisters for standing up for their community. It's a shame they won't have these resources, but community is and always has been what makes a language great. Today the python world stood up for theirs

This is an exceptional article. @kaiserkuo.bsky.social puts in words thoughts I've had for years about the intellectual challenge the west faces in reckoning with China's success, not just in modernizing but in some critical areas leading, while historical leaders remain unaware they no longer lead.
I have a new, long piece in The Ideas Letter called “The Great Reckoning: What the West Should Learn from China," arguing that we must learn from China even (or especially) when its successes unsettle our assumptions. Link below.

You should read this wonderful little history of the #tidyverse, by @hadley.nz.

It reminded me about my early #rstats days as a PhD student (2011 - 2016), where I was constantly trying out the new things Hadley and crew were cooking up.

Actually it's worse than that. Most of the energy expended by a (gas) car is exhausted as waste heat, then most of the *remaining* energy is spent on moving the weight of the car.
There are more people on bikes than there are people in cars in this photo.

We could move more people if we gave cyclists more space.

Most of the energy spent moving a bike is moving the weight of the rider.

Most of the energy expended by a car is moving the weight of the car.

The south park satire of ICE is not satire.
