NEW: DOJ said tonight that it was DHS Secretary Kristi Noem who made the call to proceed with the deportation of more than 100 Venezuelan men to El Salvador, despite a judge's order seeking to block the transfer.

I wrote about a Biden enforcement pilot because even though public opinion is softening on Trump’s deportation campaign, voters don’t trust Dems on immigration. They need to present an alternative to enforce the law more humanely. Read more here: arosaflores.substack.com

My final piece on Biden’s immigration legacy looks at two efforts — one on enforcement and one on family reunification — that haven’t gotten enough attention. We don’t have to choose between control and compassion in immigration policy. We can have both. open.substack.com/pub/arosaflo...

What’s happening in Charlotte isn’t about public safety — it’s about sending a message to American citizens and their undocumented family members that they’re not welcome here. We must stand up to the lies this administration is spreading about immigrants.
“[Trump] is totally chilling daily life with these enforcement actions. It’s not about crime...it’s about saying you’re not welcome here.” @andreaflores.bsky.social on President Trump's escalating immigration crackdown happening despite the Administration's terrible week in federal court.

Today, @dwallacewells.bsky.social has a brilliant piece in the @nytimes.com on the global migration surge that shaped Biden’s immigration issues. Countries worldwide saw major increases in migration during the same period.

The path forward on #immigration won’t come from wishful thinking.

It starts with owning what worked — and what failed — under both Trump and past administrations.

Time for real reforms on asylum, the border, etc. My latest:

Latest America’s Promise newsletter is out today. I break down how Biden finally brought border numbers down — and the major role Mexico played. Trump is trying to take a victory lap, but monthly numbers are already ticking back up…

🧵 New America’s Promise post drops tomorrow. I’m continuing my series on Biden’s immigration policies.

In Parts 1–3, I unpacked:
1️⃣ The transition team experience
2️⃣ How the 100-day plan unraveled
3️⃣ How the border crisis spilled into cities.

Had a great visit with @umnlawschool.bsky.social to talk about the future of immigration reform legislation.

Election takeaway: Dems have an opening on immigration. The border’s calm, but Trump’s vulnerable on overreach in cities. Dems need a plan to keep the border calm, rein in ICE & CBP, & protect the undocumented. These are the positions voters actually support.

We’re one year out from the midterms — and Democrats still don’t have a clear immigration strategy. Until they break from Biden’s failures and offer a new vision, this issue will keep hurting candidates.

Border Patrol’s militarized tactics don’t belong in our cities. After years of impunity at the border, they’re now using the same extreme methods in places like Chicago. Accountability is long overdue.
An appeals court has paused a judge’s order requiring CBP official Greg Bovino to give daily immigration updates in Chicago. @andreaflores.bsky.social, vice president of immigration policy and campaigns at @fwd.us, joins The Weeknight to call for scrutiny of CBP’s “extreme” intimidation tactics.

I joined @aliciamenendez.bsky.social to share my experiences with the Border Patrol — and why we should all be on alert as they take over ICE operations nationwide. We can enforce immigration law without terrorizing communities.

This will be a humanitarian nightmare. Soft-sided facilities at the border are costly, unfit for long-term detention, and dangerous when overcrowded. There’s no justification for this other than to keep terrorizing people for civil immigration violations. www.cnn.com/2025/10/24/p...
