Sad news. This gent was a legend. When I was a HT in London we invited him to run a marathon in 100m shuttle runs with the children in the playground. Between them they ran the full marathon length with him. It took all day. He ran to the school and then ran home afterwards (Ilford). He was 94. 🙏🏼
British runner - believed to be world's oldest marathon finisher - killed in road accident
Fauja Singh was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries while trying to cross a road in his birth village of Beas Pind in India - and first ran the London Marathon at the age of 89.

Back home following a lovely few days in the lakes. Ullswater was beautiful. Wainwright was spot on. It hosts the finest walk in Lakeland.

Lovely few days in the North York Moors with all the family. Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay the jewels.

There is one message for the government on this anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster

No watering down, no ifs or buts, no more delays. It is time to deliver a Hillsborough Law in full in the name of 97 football fans who were unlawfully killed

Happy World Poetry Day to all who celebrate. If you’re interested in writing poetry yourself, I hope this poem will be of some use.
Ten Rules for Aspiring Poets

1. Poetry does not have to rhyme.
Well, at least not all the time always.

2. Metaphors can lend a poem power
     (but mixing them isn’t good).
Should they start to fly in all directions,
      nip them in the bud.

3. Focus and concentration
     are important skills to hone.
Close the door. Turn off the wi-fi.
Don’t get distracted by your ph

4. Avoid clichés like the plague.

5. Don’t write stuff that’s a bit vague.

6. The use of unnecessarily long words
     may result in reader alienation.
     Curb your sesquipedalianism
     to obviate any obfuscation.

7. Always proof-read you’re work.
Accuracy can be it’s own reward!
     And remember that the penis
     mightier than the sword.

8. Check haiku closely
for lines which have too few
     or too many syllables.

9. Never ever follow rules.

I’m re-reading 1984 and was reminded of Newspeak’s really helpful way of categorising things:

*Plusungood
*Ungood
*Good
*Plusgood
*Doubleplusgood

‘Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed by exactly one word.’

Not sure if it will ever catch on in education, but just a thought. 🙄
