I admit that I didn't think about "the band" in most acts until John Belushi made a point of introducing them on the Blues Brothers' albums and when they showed up in the movies. I learned how important the geniuses behind the talent were to making that kind of magic. Steve Cropper. Thanks.

Social media has been around long enough now that I've watched my high school alumni group move from reporting weddings and career accomplishments to legacy student graduations and obituaries. It is a fascinating phenomenon.

Hm. The Sacred Algorithm wants to decorate my news feed with unconventionally attractive women in shiny black breeches. I guess that's the curse of being a writer and a far more appealing environment to scroll through than when I was researching serial killers and pig farms for a different book.

So weird. I just started watching the last Mission: Impossible movie, and the hook makes me think this is what a Neil Breen movie would be like with a $400 million budget. The socio-political set dressing is just bonkers.

If Biden closed his eyes for more than a few seconds at one meeting, it would fill the conservative news cycle for days. Trump naps through several, and suddenly it's prayer, meditation, focus on active listening, or some other bullshit lie to defend their deteriorating oligarch.

Food Hack: I have found that the most accurate and prompt delivery drivers are found near airports. If you pick a good restaurant near the airport, you'll find a lot of drivers pulling taxi and delivery duty. They are always in a hurry to get back to the arrivals circle, so they are quick.

My generation is the last to enjoy the dignity of screwing up without the potential of doing it in front of a global audience. Police body cams and court videos have monetized a modern TMZ covering ordinary people on their absolute worst days, defining their entire lives for posterity and profit.

Because we are conditioned to consume and spend over the next few days, may I suggest that, instead of feeding the Walmart or Amazon beasts, you buy local from your friendly merchants? Buy books from local authors at local bookstores. Buy original art from galleries in your town.

I recited the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at school for 12 years. You could be punished for refusing even once. In public school, we had to take the pledge 2,160 times. I don't mind telling people that I am a proud American. I love my country. But..c'mon.
