History is rich and complex. For example, did you know that the Irish, Spanish, Italians, and anyone east of the Oder–Neisse line were once NOT WHITE? It's true. And when these folks first crowded immigration offices, they were brutalized by "whites" until they assimilated generations later.

"What is it that drives you to speak out against the liberal agenda?"
"We need people in America to WAKE UP."
"So you need them to be awakened."
"Yes!"
"Woken up to see the injustices around them."
"Yeah."
"So....America needs to be woke. Got it."

A great way to introduce young folks to literature. Have Nick Carraway livestream a Gatsby party. Livestream Ahab's latest pursuit. Let whatever the fuck happens in Finnegan's Wake play out with an improv troupe.

If watching a television show hurts you emotionally, stop. Stop watching. Read a book. Take up knitting. Walk the cat. Seek professional counseling on how to adjust your life so that entertainment is less important to you than, say, LIFE. And for Zarquon's Sake, DON'T PODCAST ANY MORE.

You know, the DOW is going to rise and fall. But those women will always have been raped and ignored. The moral hypocrisy of this leadership is disgusting.

Historically, Pavel Chekov was the first time Star Trek chose to hire someone to improve the sex appeal of the show, predating 7 of 9 by twenty years.

It seems that the louder a media outlet claims to be objective and fair, the less of either they turn out to be.

"Cringe" is watching a bunch of midde-aged dickheads with microphones complaining how Star Trek is "cringe" by ruining their lives with stories written for people who aren't like them.

People will start taking this shit seriously when public servants are subject to the same scrutiny as those seeking citizenship. When debates become competitions over who knows the Constitution and laws of their districts, those answers will matter. Governance should not go to the top salesperson.

Layoffs subscribe to the Gospel of the Free Market. Setting workers free to maximize capacity and revenue is the "hard sacrifice" that the rich make toward their corporate prosperity so they can afford to procure more temporary labor later.

#starfleetacademy started out this week as "Dork Calling Orson" but took off from there to give us the best hour of Trek I've watched in a LONG time. SO good to DS9 and SO great to this amazing new character, SAM. Two in a row with great characters to distract from the vanilla, boring leads.

We all wish to shine like The Sun. I would be fine serving as the Moon. I may not brighten everyone's life, I choose to be there in the dark for those who need me.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Time increases the closer one gets to a black hole work meeting, especially when dense and hostile deadlines orbit them.

Like religion, entertainment IPs change as they cross cultures, languages, and generations. The argument about what constitutes "true" Star Trek might seem pedantic and petty, but it has serious psychological and social implications for those who made it a major part of their lives.

Klingons will be okay. They are genetically flexible. They can mate with humans, Jem'Hadar, and have offshoots that look very different from the classic leather-clad biker turtle version.

Being a moderate in American politics right now is like being that well-meaning soul who wants to get between two warring gangs out for blood and armed for war. When they die, both warring sides will claim they were either collateral damage or chose to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
