this is not a defense of the cybertruck. they're a ridiculous safety hazard to everyone around them for countless reasons, on top of being an eyesore and, lest we forget, sold by a nazi. however, according to what data i can find, tesla is not admitting that with their trade-in prices. 5/5

300k miles or even a million, the cybertruck's value didnt drop below 65k. obviously at a certain point the black book is going to deviate a lot from what an individual trade-in can be expected to get, but the fact is that devaluation starts high and slows over time... 4/5

first of all, you do lose value on a car if you buy it and then immediately try to sell it. that's just how buying and then reselling things back to companies works. you dont get the same amount back as you paid. also, the first 6k miles devalue a car way more than the next 6k. even trying... 3/5

j.d. power to get msrp values and the black book via consumerreports dot org to get trade-in values for all of these. anyways the main thing that gets me after this headline is that even if a $100k cybertruck loses $35k after 6k miles, that is not $5.6 per mile... 2/5

was bored waiting to change laundry loads so did some checking, this headline is somewhere between misleading and wrong. checking against other 2024-model-year american pickup trucks, the cybertruck only loses about 12% of its value after 6k. maybe my methodology sucks but i used... 🧵
