Senate Republicans have introduced an appropriations bill that includes no new riders on Washington DC. That is now the starting point for negotiations with Democrats
The Senate GOP's FY26 FSGG spending bill also includes 18 additional DC-related policy riders, including the legacy riders prohibiting the District from establishing a regulated recreational marijuana market & prohibiting the use of funds for abortion: www.appropriations.senate.gov/news/majorit...

I am so thankful we have an effective, tenacious fighter on behalf of DC in @dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social. This is a huge ruling that, if left undisturbed by the DC Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, means the National Guard will be off our streets on Dec. 12th
BREAKING: Federal judge rules that Trump's DC troop deployment is likely illegal — both as to D.C. National Guard and and out-of-state National Guard units — granting DC's request to block the use of the troops in this way.

The preliminary injunction is stayed until Dec. 11.

This is a disappointing vote that advances forward bills that would make DC less safe and just, and that would drive a stake through the heart of democracy in DC. But these bills have to pass the Senate to become law, and I am confident we can defeat them there www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...
Taking Trump’s lead, House votes to change D.C. bail, policing laws
As the Republican-led House considers sweeping changes to D.C.’s criminal justice system, two more bills pass — with some Democratic support.

D.C. residents deserve the same right to govern themselves as every other community.

Yet House Republicans, who know little about D.C., are pushing bills that meddle in what should be local decisions.

I stand with D.C. leaders against these harmful attacks.

“This is about using Washington, D.C. as a test case to advance the far-right, MAGA agenda for blue cities across the country,” [Ankit Jain] said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference, steps from the Capitol and flanked by a couple dozen people waving red signs proclaiming, “FREE DC.”
Taking Trump’s lead, House Republicans eye changes to D.C. bail, policing
The Constitution gives Congress — in which D.C. has no voting representation — authority over D.C.’s laws and budget.

So, no language to hire back all the federal workers Trump fired in the months prior to the shutdown, and just a promise to hold a doomed vote on Obamacare subsidies. What was the point of it all then? So many federal workers were furloughed for so long for nothing? www.cnn.com/2025/11/09/p...

Let's not miss this great result just outside DC. The voters overwhelmingly said YES to proportional ranked choice voting in Greenbelt, which will allow for greater minority representation on the Council and end vote splitting. Another DC-area jurisdiction switching to RCV!
WE WON! Greenbelt says YES to #RankedChoiceVoting!

YES: 2073 (67%) NO: 1018 (33%)

THANK YOU!!!

On this, I'll agree with President Trump: If Congress eliminates the filibuster, DC statehood is inevitable
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

A shout out to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, who was willing to take on the rich and powerful, who was relentlessly attacked by people who couldn't handle an elected official of a different faith, and who still ran a hopeful and unifying campaign, for being elected the Mayor of New York City

The pain and fear I have heard from the immigrant community since the ICE surge into DC has been heartbreaking. Unfortunately, it now appears our own police force is supporting the Trump Administration's attacks on immigrants in DC. It needs to stop
Today we heard poignant & powerful testimony from residents about their experiences with DC government coordination with federal agencies. We will continue to accept written testimony until Nov 28 at 5:30 pm: lims.dccouncil.gov/Hearings/hea...

We have been told that the National Guard deployment in DC will cost the federal government $201 MILLION through the end of this calendar year. If the Guard is really staying through the America 250 celebration, the total cost to the taxpayers could easily top half a billion

Republicans are currently trying to gerrymander their way to a permanent House majority. The good news is that in two states where they are trying this, the people can gather signatures to put a "veto referendum" on the ballot to allow the public to stop the GOP gerrymanders
