Am sure the government will be absolutely devastated that the social media ban will greatly limit the ability to organise things like the School Strike 4 Climate.
The November monthly temperatures have been released and 2025 looks set to be the 2nd hottest year on record.

Remember when warming apparently stopped in 1997?

That is more than 0.5C ago.

An excellent piece on the social media ban - it captures my “simmering anger at the total mismanagement of a serious issue.”

Thank you Tim.
The social media ban is the Platonic ideal of contemporary politics:

An ill-conceived, superficial "we must do something" response to a serious systemic issue

The real harm it will cause terrifies me

Can it inspire us to create a better politics?

Were I in a govt that really cared about kids, I’d be banning new coal and gas mines with rather more fervour than the current ban on social media.

Probably wouldn’t get the same boasting front pages in the Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph though…

The Australien Government has made an ad about the Social Media Ban for Under-16s, and it's surprisingly honest and informative.

A horrendous report on ABC radio from a Brisbane doctor doing a second tour in Gaza with Medecins sans Frontières. She says the ceasefire is in name only, the genocide continues and the deprivation of basic food, shelter and resources means even the injured haven’t what the need to heal.

Whitlam’s legacy is one of possibility and hope. He showed us what a brave, grown up Australia could look like.
Whitlam showed us what a brave, grown up Australia could look like.  And 50 years later, you have to wonder – is it even possible to make Australia brave again?

ICYMI, this was an excellent interview with Chris Hedges.

Kudos to Dave for getting this exclusive.
But there is a key question arising that mainstream media pretend they don't have to answer:

Why are Australian journalists so scared to confront the truth about Israel and Palestine? #auspol
I interviewed Pulitzer Prize winning war correspondent Chris Hedges for an hour about the Western media betrayal of Palestinian journalists, the National Press Club of Australia, fascism and a violent empire in decline.

Israeli courts have extended the arbitrary detention of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya.

On 27.12.24 Israeli military arbitrarily detained him, a paediatrician and director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

His name was initially on the release list as part of the ceasefire deal. He must be released immediately.

“Once again, Morrison is extraordinary in everything but merit.”

The Saturday Paper has some excoriatingly great editorials and this is one of them.
Editorial: Scott Morrison’s last and only meaningful acts in parliament were about securing his first opportunities outside it. AUKUS is less a security partnership and more a one-man superannuation scheme. satpa.pe/K2fKgAv
The one-man super scheme
Of all the things Scott Morrison does not understand, and the list is long and often embarrassing, somewhat in the shape of his prime ministership, China would rate very close to the top.
