I don't understand why U.S. reporters so regularly seem to let politicians get away with 'I haven't seen that' about stuff a) they obviously know and b) is directly relevant to their job. Did they sign some kind of agreement never to ask a follow-up question?

This is pretty much how I see the Comey indictment, too.
The guy is just dying to do an American Decency V. Trumpian Decadence showdown, and he has the act down pat.
That is not what Trump needs right now.
Especially with the Epstein stuff hanging over his head.

He's a huge asshole, but he also does serious white guy gravitas quite well, which is going to be quite the contrast (bad) to Patel and Bondi, so it's another poor reason to lead with Comey

Important thing to know: Grand juries only hear one side of the story. The defense doesn’t cross examine witnesses or present a case. Good prosecutors are committed to the truth & doing justice. They don’t indict cases when the defendant can contradict their case.
