Astronomer. Meant to study galaxies, somehow got roped into studying artificial satellites and space rocks
I feel like we should make the ghouls who vote heinously because they aren't running for re-election face some kind of social consequence. Like they should never know a moment of peace for their complicity in this.

I ended up missing this over the holidays but that stupid "American Superiority in Space" executive order that got made on December 18th, just like their attempt to kill TraCCS a few months ago, is going to throw the space sector into chaos.

Disappointed but unfortunately not surprised that this big eared bastard is doing what bastards tend to do. Isaacman is unfit to lead NASA
As expected, Isaacman is an admin stooge:

‘This was not part of some “long-planned facilities consolidation” as Isaacman claims. The Goddard Master Plan, written in 2022, does not call for the library’s closure. Building 21, which houses the library, was scheduled for renovation, not elimination.’
IFPTE Responds to NASA Administrator Isaacman's Misleading and Misguided Explanation for Closing NASA's Largest Research Library — IFPTE
IFPTE President Matt Biggs: “I want to chalk up NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman misguided explanation for the closing of NASA’s research library at the Goddard Space Center to his being new to the j...

The part that makes me most angry is how powerless I feel. Short of doing a little unmentionable thing what can a regular citizen even do to meaningfully stop this. Our elected officials clearly won't.

Today on the arXiv:

Thiele et al. 2026, "An Orbital House of Cards: Frequent Megaconstellation Close Conjunctions" - arxiv.org/abs/2512.09643

It remains way past time to stop letting corporations unilaterally make a mess of the sky.
An Orbital House of Cards: Frequent Megaconstellation Close Conjunctions
The number of objects in orbit is rapidly increasing, primarily driven by the launch of megaconstellations, an approach to satellite constellation design that involves large numbers of satellites pair...

Rent is so stupid. Like what do you mean I'm basically giving my landlady a stipend every month? "Don't spend this all at once because it's half my paycheck and you aren't getting any more until I get paid again"

Kessler syndrome is a very real danger for us and I don't think it's a stretch to believe that our entire society would need to be restructured if, say, we could no longer replenish our telecom, weather, or GPS satellites.

I'll admit it's a bit embarrassing to only just be finding this out, but we can identify an asteroid binary based on the wobble from its ASTROMETRY!? That's insane! If my back of the envelope math is right that's like spotting the head of a pin needle from 150 km away. GAIA is amazing

Why the fuck is the body's response to everything nausea? Too much caffeine? Nauseous. Too little caffeine? Nauseous. Didn't sleep that well the night before? Buddy, you better believe you're going to be nauseous. I CAN'T TELL WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME!

Just watched a Zoox and a Waymo get into a standoff because the Zoox was driving on the wrong side of the road. Zoox backed down first despite having the clear defensive advantage

Charlie Kirk was a bad person and his death is cause for celebration, writes journalist Evan Urquhart.

It’s a wonderful thing to outlive a someone who spent his life working for your elimination. That's why I'm celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk.

I have a sneaking suspicion that no matter what field of science you go into, at some point, you will hit a scenario that could end the world and it's being monitored by one guy named Greg off a grant worth like $50k
