Pan-European initiative to integrate all aquatic animal tracking | we love telemetry, data & partnership | tracking & networking to improve aquatic life 🐟🐠🦈
News! The European Tracking Network just logged its 1,000,000,000th detection! 🎉🐟
Since GPS doesn’t work underwater, telemetry is a key to help us understanding fish movements, essential for conservation and management.
Huge thanks to everyone uploading data - great teamwork! 🌊

Recently, 124 Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) were delineated for the European Atlantic 🦈
This effort had data contributions from 214 researchers, including ETN members! Many of these ISRAs were partially/ompletely supported with telemetry data, underscoring the importance of this information.

FINALLY! 🥳

A Baltic Sea Tracking Network is on the way!! Thanks in part to a receiver loan from @oceantracking.bsky.social members of ETN based at SLU & LUKE (Finland) have deployed what we hope is just the beginning 💪

You can find out more about the project here: tinyurl.com/yc5nhxr5
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences launches large-scale fish tracking – aiming to provide new insights about fish in the Baltic Sea
SLU has deployed 80 acoustic receivers along two lines in the Baltic Sea. By listening for signals from tagged fish, the receivers will reveal migration routes and uncover new insights on life beneath...

Today is International Shark Day!

Sharks are over 550 species that come in many shapes and sizes, from the minuscule 20 cm long dwarf lanternshark to the almost 100 times longer whale shark. Amazing! (but not a surprise, which was ruined by their names).
