Tillsammans med andra forskare uttrycker jag min oro för våra barns framtid i en allt farligare, mer instabil värld, och ber vår landsbygdsminister att fatta beslut med barn i åtanke. Med makt kommer ansvar. Och han har mer makt än de flesta andra medborgare i landet.

Evolutionary change driven by intensive fishing led cod to ‘shrink’ from average 40cm length in 1996 to 20cm in 2019 Overfishing has led to a collapse in the eastern Baltic cod population, but over the past three decades the size of the fish themselves has also been dramatically and mysteriously shrinking. During these relatively cool months in Helsinki, it’s good to remember it would have been even colder without climate change.

In today's climate, a June this cold occurs once per 9 years, but in 1900 it used to be every other year.

Continuous probability distributions for June mean temperature in Helsinki for 1900, 2025 and 2050 climates. The 2050 climate is calculated assuming SSP2-4.5 scenario.

Från klimatpolitik till kriminalpolitik viftar regeringen undan välbelagd forskning som ”olika åsikter”. Det är inte bara kunskapsförsktande utan lägger grunden för ineffektiv och i värsta fall farlig politik.

Bra att dessa drygt 1000 forskare säger ifrån.

Många texter om missade klimatmål nu. Påminner om att målen är långt ifrån tillräckliga för att vara i linje med Parisavtalet. Gäller också på global nivå, se här från IPCC – även om alla länders åtaganden fullgörs helt och hållet, beräknas vi nå 3,2 grader 2100. Det är en värld vi inte känner.

Land rise, has been a prominent feature of the coastal zone of the northern Baltic Sea since the last glaciation. Not so anymore, as the rate of sea level rise will nullify land rise for the rest of the century. For large portions of our European coasts though, prospects are much bleaker.

Bra att länsstyrelserna lyfter problemen i Västerhavet. Man föreslår följande åtgärder:
- Reglera fiske så att överfiskade bestånd kan återhämta sig
- Inrätta fler marina reservat med omfattande reglering
- Mer miljöövervakning och uppföljning för att säkra nödvändig kunskap

Idag lyfter de tre västkustlänsstyrelserna miljötillståndet i Västerhavet. Enligt de svenska miljömålen skulle vi varit i mål 2020. Det sköts till 2030.

Okej, vi är långt ifrån att nå målet "Hav i balans"... Det värsta är nog ändå - efter 25 år med miljömålen - att utvecklingen nu går åt FEL håll.
