Anyone who has ever wondered how great civilisations fell apart can now witness it unfolding in real time.

What we have today comes from two decades of effort. Quadrupling the offshore fleet while developing, commercialising, and installing grid-scale electricity storage technology is pretty unlikely to happen.

Why can't we have engineering honesty from our politicians?

Working in the wind farm industry I struggle to see how the UK will honestly get from 15 hours of contiguous renewable supply to 8,760 by 2030.

Even if the UK could requisition all global manufacturing output and all installation capacity we'd not meet the target in just 50 months time.

What languages did Marx speak and write in? Considering he lived in Prussia, France, Belgium, and London, he must have been fluent in several?
arj2024.bsky.social
Agreed, as was his previous series Talking Politics and Talking Politics - History of Ideas
arj2024.bsky.social
Not only should your youngest do it so should all potential MPs!

My daughter did it 4 years ago and my son is halfway through. Works well with economics and sociology.
arj2024.bsky.social
My son, who is also studying A-level politics along with economics, and sociology, is completely fed up with how Marx seems to dominate all his subjects.

How is it possible that both Labour and the Tories have managed to lose touch with reality at the same time?
arj2024.bsky.social
Who on earth believes that projects involving 10,000 new jobs are developed and agreed on a 72h trip to India?

These projects, if they exist at all, will have been planned and worked on for years.

To spin it as huge success for Starmer is simply dishonest.

Jenrick's ventriloquism act is the highlight of the Tory conference, keeping the oldies thoroughly entertained!

Last June I took my Mum over to see my daughter at Jesus College in Cambridge. It was as they were setting up for May Ball, hence the orange carpet covering their precious lawn.

I've just noticed on Google Maps that they have a photo of me taking this photo of Mum!

Wow, what a coincidence!
arj2024.bsky.social
Exactly, so how does Jenerik think he's going to get rid of any judges he doesn't like?

I assume he's just copying Trump in the hope it will attract some of the far right US funding?
arj2024.bsky.social
Can a UK politician sack Judges or is it simply copy-and-paste Trump?
arj2024.bsky.social
Presumably Jenrick hopes to attract a bunch of US money by replaying Trump's Project 2025 playbook?

Yet Labour appears to be making every effort to align themselves as closely as possible with Reform policies.
arj2024.bsky.social
A government made up of ex-civil servants with minimal business experience appears unable to see how the extra post-Brexit costs, bureaucracy, and delays are choking exports and stifling growth.

It's particularly an issue for exporting SMEs, but this is an area where they have even less experience.
arj2024.bsky.social
Brexit was a huge success leaving the UK isolated from Europe, its international reputation ruined and a UN Security Council and NATO member seriously weakened.

That's precisely why the supporters of Brexit invested in the project and exactly what they achieved.

Yes, I agree ALL kids should do politics and economics until 16, particularly if the voting age is dropping to 16.

The difficulty is there is insufficient time in the timetable for more compulsory subjects - unless the school day is extended.
arj2024.bsky.social
Apart from being the only way to kickstart growth, it seems to me that Labour (and the Tories) need to stand against Farage, which surely means doing the opposite of whatever he does.

Moving closer to Reform so there's barely any difference just pushes people to vote for the real thing.
arj2024.bsky.social
My son is in his second year of A Level Politics, and I completely agree that he shows a better understanding than many MPs.

It really makes you think - should A Level Politics (and maybe A Level Economics) be a requirement to become an MP?

After all, what other job needs no qualifications?
arj2024.bsky.social
The only route to Labour surviving as a political party is for them to ditch Starmer/McSweeney and pivot immediately to become a pro-EU party pushing hard for EU membership starting with SM+CU.

If they continue marching to Reform's agenda they only make it easier for Farage to become PM.
arj2024.bsky.social
You wouldn’t think things could get any worse for the Tories, but Badenoch seems determined to push the party to total oblivion.

Unbelievable!
arj2024.bsky.social
I suspect the Tory test criteria will be pretty simple.

A tool to make it easy to open the salt container lid on a NEFF dishwasher. Due to the lid's large diameter it can be challenging to unscrew, especially when salt sticks it tightly shut. Attach to a short bit of wood and rotate 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
