I got plenty of scorn for this article- but I stand by what I wrote. This is best chance yet to end the current slaughter, free the hostages, and create space, and opportunity for a better future for Gazans. Do I trust all parties, no! Do, I think it has risks, gaps and flaws, yes! But, still 🙏🤞🙏🧵

Cynics will call me naive and stupid. But, it’s always easier to tear things down, and find fault, than try to work through fiendish problems. I understand your scepticism. I dislike and distrust the man completely. The likelihood is this will implode with spectacular fashion. But, I’m willing to give it a chance, because, frankly, there’s nothing else out there, no leadership, no one else even vaguely able to bully down the extremists

My friends in Gaza are desperate for this plan to succeed. They weren’t consulted. But, they were never consulted by Hamas either. Netanyahu and his right wing have ignored mainstream Israelis too.

Is it pretty, no. Is it perfect, fair, no. Is it sustainable, who knows? But, damn, I’m glad Trump has waded into this with his usual “finesse” and “expertise.” If he can succeed in stopping the killing, where everyone else has failed, good for him. A pox on Smotrich, Ben Gvir, Hamas. Peace now.🙏

All Biden’s pleas and “sophisticated” nuanced approaches got nowhere. The Israeli right and Hamas are brutal extremists who completely ignore normal diplomatic niceties. Trump is the same. And, shock, horror, even if Trump is ONLY doing this for a Nobel peace prize, frankly, if he pulls it off, he’ll deserve it. The death and destruction, has gone on too long. The deal has plenty in it for extremists on both sides to hate. That’s good. Trump is forcing them all to back down 2/

It seems clear—I think to everyone, now—that a false and illegal invocation of the Insurrection Act is coming before the end of the year. Media outlets should be telling us how they will prepare for this potential Treason. State governments should be telling us. Activists should be developing plans.
