I have no problem w security guarantees for Russia: once it has retreated inside its internationally recognised borders, Ukraine & the West should promise not to attack RU territory. But Grushko is asking for guarantees of continued Ukrainian insecurity, not Russia’s security. That’s unacceptable.

I'd add to @benansell.bsky.social's political analysis here the simple point that a reset here would be *good* for growth and save money.

The settlement proposals are not just morally repulsive and politically self-defeating, but also an act of economic self-harm.
If Starmer wants a reset - and not yet another U-turn when the parliamentary party balks at a policy - here is his chance.

I'm sorry, I feel for any family dealing with a kidnapping, but what the hell has the Nancy Guthrie case got to do with us?

There are thousands of kidnappings in Pakistan, for example, but they're not from rich families.

The Institute for Government "on a roll"

Sounds like Cabinet Secretary is departing. If that is the case, some of details in this may have changed, but the overarching challenges for a new Cab Sec remain the same.

Which itself tells a story.

Henry Zeffman of the BBC stands in Downing Street, having a disussion that would be just as easy if he was in the nice warm studio.

Three metres to either side, other companies' commentators stand before their own cameras.

At least it's not raining.

Nick Buckley of Advance UK is fighting the Gorton and Denton byelection against Matthew Goodwin of Reform UK. If they could be bothered, they might argue it out on these points.

The voters might be confused.

Times (and apparently Cabinet Ministers) apparently confusing Labour Party rules with U.K. constitution

Labour Party rules set out what happens if LEADER of party is ‘permanently unavailable’. But they dont match up the principles, precedents and expectations about what happens fo replace a PM. 1/

Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.
