Over 1,000 Ubisoft workers around the world have walked off the job.

In response to a return-to-office mandate, layoffs, and the cancellation of several games, workers launched a three-day strike.

The workers walked out in response to five French unions issuing the strike call.
Ubisoft workers are on strike: 'We are treated like children'
The strike comes after the publisher revealed plans to cut up to 200 jobs and ordered remote workers back into the office

if fighting games having single-player content was enough to make the big companies keep letting them get made we'd still be getting actually good Tales Of games

I was thinking about that boss fight against Leon last time I played and how I'm actually completely okay with it being such a difficulty spike because the game pretty firmly established across its entire runtime that Leon is, in fact, That Dude

sometimes I feel like the gen 2/HG&SS level curve complaints half come from people not realizing you can take down Red pretty comfortably with a team in the 60's even though his shit's like level 80+

(the Kanto wild Pokemon being super low is still kinda wack though lol)

For context Xenoblade would be in the top right of this shitty chart I whipped up.

LRT really game genres are too visually categorized anyway. Xenoblade is still listed as an Action RPG on many sites but anyone who actually learned the combat will tell you there's no action gameplay going on. People still call ATB turn based. No one wants to call DMC a beat em up because it's 3D.

I think this is the endgame of making things while believing there's an attention economy you have to beat everyone else in. It stops being about honing a craft or making something that has intrinsic value to you and starts being about how you're much better at gaming the system than everyone else.
The whole article is repulsive but this passage is at the core of it. She has no interest in writing books, she wants to win some kind of competition that nobody entered

personally, this sort of active "observation, learning, and adjustment" process is why I enjoy playing difficult games, rather than the frequently assumed reasons of "bragging rights" or "figurative masochism"

dunno if it applies to other people who like hard games but I can imagine it does, maybe?
