Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the End. Not necessarily of the franchise, but certainly of its recognized identity. It's a celebration of classic Yakuza / LaD design philosophies- but it may also be a farewell to them as well. [Signal boosts of all kinds appreciated!]

"So anyway, he was saying that- hey are you listening?"

Huh? Oh. Yeah! Yeah...gimme a second, I just thought of something I gotta check. Maybe make an edit. Really quick.
gcvazquez.bsky.social
It will suck for a few hours, maybe a day. Then it stops mattering because you are normal and you have a thousand other things you were interested in doing. You will forget about it the same way you would have forgotten about it a week after you binged the whole thing.

I promise you that missing out on stuff isn't actually that big of a deal once you get over the time it was a big deal when it happened to you as a child, and I promise the reason that stuck with you wasn't the FOMO, but everything else attached to the missing out.
gcvazquez.bsky.social
This is how you gotta think. In the moment, being told not to play something is like, "oh now I really wanna play it," because the FOMO is making you think playing it is way more important than it actually is, and your brain is afraid of things being different. But there's so much more to do.

One of my favorite series but I just won't buy or play it, got 1000s of other things to play anyway.

People are doing things. They are doing a LOT. It's up to you to plug in and participate.

"why is nobody talking abou--" EVERYONE is talkin about it BRO. You just never stick around to listen to ANYONE ELSE, you're just here to TALK

You don't need to play it. You don't need to support it. You will be fine without it. There's so much more out there to spend your time with.

I'm rambling, but if you are someone who finds it difficult to envision a world where your favorite franchise no longer has games coming out, please consider:
A. Nothing is forever. At some point, things end.
B. Do you truly want to reward this blatant disregard for ethical standards?

I've covered this series for a long time, so I know that it lives or dies by its launch sales. I know what SEGA wants from RGG is that burst of sales at the start, and I know that's how they get greenlit for more stuff. And I am perfectly fine no longer playing this series if it were to die tomorrow

As of right now, I have no plans to cover Yakuza Kiwami 3. Maybe in a few years, when I can get it for insultingly cheap, after the company has written it off as a product they're no longer looking for revenue from. Probably second-hand. That's me being honest, and putting my integrity on the line.

Does asking streamers/influencers not to cover the game put them in an awkward position? Yeah, it does. But if engaging in discourse and acting like you care about the industry is the cost of doing business, then so is staking your reputation on playing a video game your fans are asking you not to.

This is like the evil Vibe Cast
gcvazquez.bsky.social
And if the people in charge don't care, or if they don't want to listen, then you continue not to buy their stuff, and you continue to express why. Especially for a studio like RGG, their bottom line is God, and the only way to kill God is to make the faithful stop believing in him.
gcvazquez.bsky.social
I know that might not seem like it does a lot, like it won't matter. But it does. If you are vocal about why you're not going to buy the game, and then follow-up by not buying the game. The people at SEGA who care about this as much as you do will have more evidence to show the people in charge.
gcvazquez.bsky.social
If you want to make a difference via online action in a way that SEGA *might* see it, you should post that you're not going to be buying the game if Kagawa is in it. And if they don't remove him from the game, you should not buy the game. You should ask streamers and influencers not to cover it.

Change dog org petitions don't seem as effective to me as much as voting with your wallet does, but it's nice to have as evidence that people care about something to an extent. I honestly don't know what fans can do given what Yokoyama has said in the past about the studio ignoring feedback.

Yooka-Replaylee makes a FAR better first impression than the original. Goodness gracious.

"I disliked your video because the karaoke at the start felt like a weird flex." God forbid I have talents outside of being a pretentious bastard.

Eight years ago, I made a video for Yooka-Laylee. I thought the game was...alright...! Today, right now, I'm streaming Yooka-Replaylee, a re-do that promises a better experience. LET'S FIND OUT IF THEY MADE IT HAPPEN.

There is absolutely no critic worth salt who wants people to stop making things. All of this stuff is part of a grander discussion about art. Creators should keep creating. Critics should keep critiquing! And everyone else should keep engaging in the work of both.

So no, you're not a hypocrite.
gcvazquez.bsky.social
Good critics explore art in thought provoking ways, or help articulate the feelings others have about art but can't describe. As long as you're trying to do either/or while making those judgments it's honestly fine. "Good," "Bad," where your opinions lie doesn't matter as much as how you say it.
