I'm going to do a thread of all the references and context behind Bad Bunny's performance and what it means for Puerto Ricans to see this on the biggest stage.

The opening title screen is a street mural in Puerto Rico that comes to life with footballs as coconuts.

Follow along!

This is tremendous. Take the time to watch it.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

Not having a researcher providing real time rebuttal in near real time is malpractice at this point. If you do not know the US history with forced sterilization of Native, Black, Autistic, Poor AND MORE you should educate yourself. It is wrong across the board. US cannot throw stones here.
WELKER: Why is it necessary to do something 85% of Greenlanders oppose?

BESSENT: Denmark has a terrible history w/ Greenlanders. There were forced sterilizations until the '90s. Now that the US has expressed an interest, there is this new interest. But the US needs to be in control to prevent a war

Seems as if this works — if employers start firing people for standing up for their neighbors and fellow humans — than a remedy is publicizing the identity of those employers.
Publishing the names of protesters and contacting their employers to have them fired for exercising their rights is a tactic straight out of the White Citizens Councils.
They're going to start using the Kirk witch hunt strategy.

Abso-fucking-lutely NOT. HARD NO.

QR codes are easily weaponized to inject malware. The should not be wearing masks, be in attire easy to recognize and have their badge number (if not Badge AND last name) easily visible.

Stop this QR Code madness!
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

Just...WOW (no paywall)
A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

My latest for Slate
You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

things off the top of my head that i can think of that conservatives have called tyranny

- health care subsidies
- seeing pronouns in an email
- being suspended from a social media platform
- pride month
- baking a cake for a same sex wedding
- legal rulings against donald trump
- EV benchmarks
Trump's thugs are going hog wild and tossing gas around in one of the busiest commercial districts in Minneapolis, just a mile or so from where I live. Complete insanity.

This is why in at least one state (Georgia) the Governor is NO LONGER ALLOWED to just pardon anyone. They can ONLY pardon those put forward by a parole\pardon commission. It has it's faults, but is a check on this craziness.
Blatant corruption on full display.

Let's see. 1st Amendment. Debate Clause. Also, all in the video are former military ore intelligence that understand the Military Justice code simply REMINDING people that obeying an illegal order has consequences. Perhaps re-upping the Nuremburg trials would be helpful here.

And there it FUCKING IS.
Ppl need to understand what's happening here.

The GOP response to the shutdown was: You're gonna cave, or we're going to hurt vulnerable people by shutting off SNAP. The Dems, unwilling to let that happen, caved.

Having watched that, the GOP is now saying: "Give us what we want on abortion or ..."
NEWS: Senate Republicans are threatening to block the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies—unless Democrats agree to tougher abortion restrictions.

I would support this IF we add swearing in Adelita Grijalva and the vote is only AFTER that is done. No "promise to swear in w\in X days" - SWEAR HER IN. If they don't, add in releasing Epstein files.
SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown:

Clean CR
Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills
1-year ACA funding extension
Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care

"This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."

FWIW - this is why I avoid the algorithm as much as possible on all platforms. I follow specific folks and add from there and only use "Follow" vs "For You/Discover/etc." In the few instances I don't, I am very cognizant of the difference.
Proof (if we needed it) that algorithmic amplification is dramatically accelerating, and perhaps even driving, the unravelling of our democracies.

Fixing the problem means tackling the algorithms themselves, not just trying - and failing - to address the harms they cause.

I thought this was a joke. WTAF is going on with this timeline?! Exactly WHO would Qatar be launching missions against or in defense of in IDAHO?! And how many other foreign nations have bases on US soil?
So Trump gave Argentina a $20 billion bailout and is now building a Qatari military facility in Idaho.

While Americans can’t afford groceries.
Hegseth: "I'm also proud that today we're signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Emeri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho."

As an IT Professional, I know how devastating this will be. Many don't realize how many H1B visa holders work on IT infrastructure and you cannot replace these folks at the drop of a hat.
i don’t think people on bluesky understand the severity of this situation.

i woke up to literally hundreds of texts from friends and family thinking about either moving back home to india or applying to other countries for jobs. this includes me.
Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad.

One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.
