one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

I already asked this but I need to ask again cause I'm out of options.

Where can I find a definitive C++ reference? I want to read about all the features in C++ one by one without fluff.

Tried reading "A Tour of C++" (2013) and "The C++ Programming Language" (1997) but they're far from a reference

I wonder if there's an emulator out there that lets you simulate a bad cartridge connection.

or i guess how hard it would be to hack an emulator and like force an address or data line held high or low.

If you block the right pin on a Final Fantasy Legend II cartridge, the game will still seemingly load but will be in an incredibly glitched state where it always starts a new game and gives you a party of four paralyzed eyeball monsters. No encounters happen and maps don't connect correctly.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

In Final Fantasy IV If you get the timing exactly right, after Yang sacrifices himself to stop the cannon in the Tower of Bab-Il, you can actually get back into the control room.

It is empty. The door to leave doesn't work and warp/exit don't work either, resulting in a softlock

In The Labyrinth of Time, entering the Ziggurat without a lantern is supposed to show a black screen. However, the developers put in the wrong filename for the black screen, so it fails to render, showing a black screen instead

It really baffles me that in the year of our luigi 2025 the linux console and X11/Wayland still use different systems for mapping keyboards.

This #ScanlineSunday is in honor of Rebecca Heinemann:

📺 Sony BVM-20F1U

Éric Chahi’s masterpiece was a breakthrough with it’s cinematic ambitions, and programming genius Burger Becky made those polygons run decently on stock SNES.

To alr who celebrate
It's my favorite day! It's the 38th anniversary of the Max Headroom signal broadcast intrusion!

1st incident lasted 25s during the 9PM news on WGN-TV in Chicago; The 2nd, 2hrs later, lasted ~90s on PBS affiliate WTTW during Dr. Who.

You can watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqge...

Some of us have a whole-ass HOTAS and a racing wheel _and_ a 6DOF spacemouse and we SHOULD be able to use them in your game.
If you make a vehicle construction game and you don't have a built in way to let people with freaky controllers map shit to them, what the heck are you doing?

Btw, are there modern indie games with eurodance soundtracks? If there are, I'd like to know their titles. And if there aren't, someone needs to get on that.
I know I have posted this in the past, but I still think that there's no better example of how much I can enjoy a thing that is very objectively bad than the length of my Eurodance playlist. No, no albums in it. Just random songs.

Dwarf Fortress Elves: You, uh, gonna finish that dead guy?
D&D elves: lol you die?? You die of old age?? After like 70 years? Lmao. You're like vermin to us. You're like a shitty animal

Silmarillion elves: you can "die"?? What the FUCK is that??? Where do you GO? Why can't I come??? *foaming at mouth* why the fuck do you get to go to 'Die' and not me

Me, 10 years ago, buying an ibuffalo 6-button controller 'cause it looked cool and they made good SNES-like pads: Huh, this thing has a grippy rubber texture like all those 90s electronics that turns to goo after 10 years. Did they come up with a new formulation that doesn't turn to goo?
