very happy to share that my first, first-author paper has been published in AJPH! we found that transgender women of color achieve insufficient and poor-quality sleep, and that those who experience discrimination are at greater risk. #episky #medsky

if the fields of medicine, epidemiology, and public health have any courage whatsoever, makary, prasad, bhattacharya, kuldorff and their ilk will be unwelcome back in our conferences and shunned professionally and socially. that they got here at all makes me worried that we don’t
That's Johns Hopkins Professor of Medicine Marty Makary, who will be welcomed back by his colleagues with open arms when his time in this admin ends.
While Makary spreads bullshit about the origin of HIV.

(To be clear, this has been thoroughly investigated and fits neither the timing nor the molecular epidemiology of HIV).

also if I can Stoicism post just a bit: this is also what memento mori is for. you are going to die someday - do you really imagine than one of your regrets will be that you didn't organize more of your life around what random Redditors think is gay?

bsky.app/profile/maxk...
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

my god elsevier's websites—all of them—are basically unusable garbage. you'd think with all that pub money they could figure out the complex task of ~logging into your account~ but apparently not

we live in an apartment building with security cameras in the lobby and have had packages stolen. the only real justification for capturing footage of theft is to prove it was stolen and get the company who sent you stuff to reimburse you/send it again. the cops will not help you, they don't care
over and over i ask: do you genuinely think the police will catch the person who stole your package (and what do you actually want to happen to that person, if so)

my go to move is to follow up a student's answer with "and how do you know that?" to reinforce the need for evidence to back up your claim, even (especially!) when you're right
It’s remarkably easy to tell which of my classmates rely on ChatGPT and which don’t, solely based on whether they can explain/justify their choice of answer to a question.

I ran into this yesterday during a group activity and it nearly derailed our whole assignment.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
