I'm delighted to be hosting the Cambridge University Endocrinology Society's annual conference this Friday, entitled: 'From Bench to Bedside (and back again)'.

We're really fortunate to have such an exciting line up of speakers, integrating across a wide range of career stages and fields.
A set of four hand-drawn anatomical illustrations, each framed in a square with different background colors. The top left shows the pancreas with surrounding blood vessels and the gallbladder. The top right features the thyroid gland and larynx. The bottom left illustrates the kidneys, adrenal glands, and major blood vessels. The bottom right displays a cross-section of the human brain with detailed internal structures. A conference programme listing sessions, speakers, and topics related to endocrinology, metabolism, and medical innovation. The schedule includes a keynote on incretins, sessions on clinical translation, fundamental science, and innovation, with discussions on genes, metabolic monitoring, parental plasticity, diabetes management, and obesity drug development. The day concludes with prizes and closing remarks.

So cool to finally see this!

At membrane contact sites, bridge-like transport proteins, e.g. LPD-3, mediate bulk lipid transfer between cellular organelles. @nature see cryo-EM structure of native LDP-3, and gain insights into its functioning and interaction with other proteins and lipids.

Structural basis of lipid transfer by a bridge-like lipid-transfer protein - Nature
The LPD-3 complex structure reveals protein–lipid interactions that suggest a model for how the native LPD-3 complex mediates bulk lipid transport and provides a foundation for mechanistic studies of ...

ÅNGSTRÖM-RESOLUTION IMAGING OF CELL-SURFACE GLYCANS 🧬🎨🍬

The glycocalyx, our cells' sugar coat, holds secrets in immunology, cancer, viral infections, and more. Visualizing its molecular architecture was impossible… until now. #glycotime #microscopy

It’s incredibly hard to study lipids in biological membranes on the nanoscale. You need near-perfect information on both membrane ultrastructure and lipid density, which usually isn’t attainable. Lipid-CLEM brought to you by @mathilda95.bsky.social changes that.

Could you do a Cell Olympics even? Migration through a 3D environment = swimming / steeplechase??
