No money for Medicaid or SNAP or museums or schools or sidewalks or gun violence prevention or art or libraries.

Always money for war.

It was a true honor to have Dr. Linda Broadbelt give this year's Gregory M. Botsaris Lecture at Tufts ChBE! It was an inspiring look at how reaction pathway analysis can be used to understand and guide plastic pyrolysis as well as to guide the discovery and synthesis of bioderived plastics

It’s sad that it requires courage right now for a university president to file something as straightforward as this, but it does. Thanks to Tufts University President Sunil Kumar for filing this. www.tufts.edu/president/sp...

Happy birthday to Canadian medical researcher & #biochemist Maud Menten (1879-1960). 🧪🐡👩🏼‍🔬 #histscj Not only was she an author of Michaelis-Menten equation for enzyme kinetics, she invented the azo-dye coupling for alkaline phosphatase, 1st example of enzyme histochemistry, still used in imaging of 🧵

I heard about Doug retiring over the summer. I went to his website to email him and heard about the accident. So devastating! I have always been a fan of his work, but whenever I met him, I was amazed by his wisdom about everything in general. Such a loss...

"The NIH... supported 99 percent of the drugs approved in the U.S. from 2010 to 2019. The agency has had a hand in “nearly all of our major medical breakthroughs over the past several decades,”

The NIH is in a struggle for its (and our) lives. This is existential to America:
Inside the Collapse at NIH
Administration officials pressured NIH to avoid clear advice from the agency’s own lawyers to restart grant funding now.

Straight into court, and you can expect universities to be seeking injunctive relief immediately. This is the way Trump has always conducted himself, lawless and without honor or compunction.

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

@warren.senate.gov @edmarkey.bsky.social please act to stop this latest illegal overreach too. It would bring research to a halt, stop the development and commercialization of new technologies, skyrocket tuition, and cost thousands of jobs.

Turns out the White House cannot adjust this major source of university funding without consulting with Congress. Add this to the string of examples where they are ignoring the law. bsky.app/profile/arch...

Anyone doing basics science knows that we're barely making ends meet with the grants, particularly if your primarily nsf funded. The budget hasn't increased with student and postdoc salary (primarily cost of grants). Meeting it 1/3 kills all science everywhere

Skype a Scientist can match you with a teacher. I had the privilege of being matched with a science teacher in Michigan who gathered about 90 students as I talked with them. I will likely do it again.

As #PhD application season is starting, I'm looking for 1-2 students to join my group at Tufts University next fall. One of these is likely to be a co-advised project with Prof. Panzer with an energy storage component. You don't need to email me - just apply. We admit a cohort to the department.

For anyone who needs to hear it, be confident. You're good at what you do. It took me too long to realize how strong a chemist I am. Many students passed through my courses, especially #womeninstem, lacking confidence in themselves. #STEM can be full of hurdles and adversity, but you can do it. 🧪🥽👩‍🔬
