Have you ever wondered why physicists are so excited to study the Higgs Boson at a new Higgs Factory collider?

Wonder no more!

I explain what a Higgs factory is, why we need one, and the amazing measurements the machine will make.

Why do theoretical physicists turn to String Theory over other quantum gravity hypotheses?

Part of the answer is that String Theory has jumped through many mathematical hoops that other hypotheses have not.

Prof Thomas Van Riet explains.

Is String Theory the "spherical cow" of quantum gravity theories? 🐮

String theorist Prof Thomas Van Riet explains why string theory is an extremely powerful framework that will still be taught decades from now.

We regularly hear that theoretical physicists are scared to go against the opinions of the "Voldemort" of theoretical physics, Ed Witten.

Are theoretical physicists really scared of Ed Witten?...No.

Did you know that the Large Hadron Collider can detect earthquakes?

In 2016, a huge quake in New Zealand - thousands of miles away from CERN - was detected because it altered the orbits of the protons in the 27km long accelerator!

David Grusch was waffing about extra spatial dimensions on the Joe Rogan podcast, but what was he talking about?

Could there be more spatial dimensions than we perceive?

Hypotheses like string theory posit their existence!

A new particle collider at @cern.bsky.social is well motivated scientifically, but is it "too expensive"?

Colliders are publicly funded, so ultimately it's down to the public to decide whether they are willing to pay!

Happily, data suggests they are!

The motivation for a new Future Circular Collider at @cern.bsky.social is scientific curiosity not creating a "universal basic income for physicists", as some might contend.

Pooling resources is taxpayer friendly!

A stunning chart.

The amount taxpayers in @cern.bsky.social member states are willing to contribute to an ongoing science mission centred around the Future Circular Collider is consistently larger than the current actual tax contribution per capita in each member state.

Should @cern.bsky.social accept private donations to help fund its core scientific mission?

There is clearly an economic incentive, but also challenges around perception, undue influence etc
