Hello Bluesky! My name is Ben but my old friends call me LOAF. I’m best known for helping Chris Roberts dream up Star Citizen but I mostly skeet about Wing Commander esoterica and my life with two wonderful black cats and beautiful wife Ali (plus dumb jokes and nonsense about other media I love).
I greatly appreciate my father deciding Star Trek IV would be the first movie I ever saw in a theater.
Hello, computer.

Leonard Nimoy's Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (aka The One With the Whales!) was released 39 years ago today.

One of the most popular Trek films, the Whale Movie is indeed one of my fav. Fresh, funny, with a fine environmental message, it completes an overall successful trilogy.

Lumi has inherited the pillow of me that we were given by Star Citizen backers at Gamescom years ago!

These would look great in your home or office!
Rabbits & rats; who could ask for anything more? My Gentlebun, Rat King and Leaping Hare prints play nicely together.

Nice! Let's see if they've added the Wing Commander Academy speech pack... no. Let's see if they've fixed the crash on mission launch they caused by leaving out the default temp files... no. Great work, GOG!

One of the first hints about Seether in Wing Commander IV is that he's wearing the same ribbons as Colonel Blair but in reverse order.

I’m actually glad they didn’t go the Rogue One route with the new Wicked; Peter Cushing would’ve made a terrible Dorothy.

This is hard to predict because in my experience show trials to accuse space heroes of treason end up with an assignment to the ISS, but Mr. Kelly has already done that.
Hegseth is now threatening to recall Sen. Mark Kelly to active duty in order to court martial him.

In the French version of Star Trek V, Sybok tries to take Captain Kirk’s baguette. But Kirk won’t let him: he needs his pain.

Exactly the right amount of time has passed so that Freddie Prinze Jr. could play Commodore Blair circa Wing Commander Prophecy!
Very expensive Amazon Prime earnest Wing Commander adaptation bonus points for Freddie cameo

Oh, here's something I was listening to yesterday. The Wing Commander: Prophecy soundtrack.
The world may never know why, but it is full of the hardest industrial bangers ever.

I've seen this 1968 ad where members of the SFWA announced if they were for or against the Vietnam War. That reminded me that the Wing Commander Universe Map included with Prophecy filled out much of the Enigma Sector with systems named after famed SFF writers. So how many appear in both places?

Question for the retro tech experts: if I had been able to afford one of those crazy industry-facing Obsidian 3dfx cards in 1997… would I have noticed any actual difference?

This is a great thread about my favorite Star Trek movie ship.
Star Trek III destroyed one Enterprise, but gave us a generous helping of new ships (plus a spacedock) to compensate. The Bird of Prey and Excelsior went on to become fan favourites, but one is not so universally loved.

Join me for a small Oberth-class appreciation thread… [🧵]

It’s paginated so that you can’t read the ship specifications without seeing a full color page of Admiral Tolwyn’s suicide that spoils the entire game!
