@tjmiller.bsky.social Not sure what you are planning to charge for Iris, so not sure it's in my budget these days, but I am definitely interested in seeing it see the light of day! I feel you on the anxiety and second guessing yourself. If you need more encouragement: just do it!

what is the best speech to text app that you are using with your AI CLI tools?

recommend one that will work, I might go with the builtin dictation soon and test it

Yes. My brain moves faster than my fingers to the point my fingers just decide to skip entire parts of words.
January 29, 2026 at 2:18 PM
Today in brain-finger pipeline misadventures...

Intent: "I want to learn"

Typed: "I warn"

When I saw it, I froze. "Wait, what was I trying to type?" Where did "warn" even come from?!

Apparently my fingers just decided to skip "nt to le"?

Is this a thing other people experience?

A lot of “UX problems” are really default problems.

If a feature needs a tutorial, it’s usually missing a default.

A good default does 3 things:
1) shows what “good” looks like
2) reduces decisions
3) gets the user to a tiny win fast

Docs teach.
Defaults convert.

Got some advice from a designer a while back that’s stuck with me. I asked how I improve my sense of whether things are well-designed or not and he said: design is about making purposeful decisions. If you can find a purpose for something being the way it is, it is likely well-designed.

Fine tuning a model on my mac, it has been running for over 24h and still not finished.

My sample data consist of 800+ records and less than 900.

So this looks good but not so great 😅

My video today tells (shows) the story of how I started with an over-engineered n8n workflow but ended up with a perfectly tuned Claude Code Skill.

Different type of video from my usual. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo16...

Turns out building this as a Claude Code Skill was much better than N8N. Lesson learned.

I’m dreaming of an app where I start a session, I open a web page or a paper or an ebook, and I talk as I read. Ask questions, make notes, all natural language. At the end of the session the transcript gets saved into a summary note of the session linked to the media I was reading.

Does this exist?
