The drama in that game was completely situationally dependent, which is great! But we don’t have to pretend that seeing hours of an ump and announcer show with sloppy play as the teams run completely out of pitchers is good for the sport *divorced* from that context

Everyone doing anti-Manfred Man discourse is forgetting the part where if that happened in a random June game there would’ve been 12 people left in the park and it would’ve been considered the most dreadful game of the year

Almost literally nothing happened for 7 innings. No good plays. Just nothing.

The future... The polar ice caps have melted, covering the Earth with water. Those who survived have adapted... to a new world…the Waterworld. Also, the Tigers and Mariners are still playing Game 5 of the ALDS somehow.

It’s been 8 innings since Skubal’s 99th and final pitch.

You ever look around and think, "wow, it's incredible any of this even came to be, the fact that we even exist in this moment is a plain miracle, all of it totally contingent on accidents of history like A.J. Hinch pulling Tarik Skubal (at least) one inning too early"?

This is part of why I like the regular season extra runner because .. in theory, extra inning games that go on very long sounds fun, but in practice, they all just start to look like *this.*

Every so often people still on X go “Wow, it’s really racist here now,” then go ahead and continue using the app.

After the 15th inning it is time to replace one player with a dog until someone wins or it's all dogs.

Time to settle this the way they used to settle 14-inning games in the regular season before the automatic runner: with a backup infielder on the mound for one team, and a 31-year-old rookie who is gonna get DFAed in the morning for the other.

I can’t even remember the last good play made by either team

Amin declaring this one of the best playoff games of the century and just, no. It's agonizing and tense but this is not "great." Neither was yesterday's imo.

the drama of a close, win or go home baseball game is close to unmatched, but *extra innings* baseball is probably the worst overtime of any sport, maybe basketball is worse with all the stoppages

there's just usually not many exciting plays. it's mostly guys messing up rather than beating other

Extra innings are normally incredibly anticlimactic until someone inevitably screws up
