The first result is a descriptive fact: After marriage, female earnings drop by 20% (solid line, accounting for the child penalty). We combine admin and survey data from Germany here. But it’s not a German feature! We document a marriage gap for other European countries.

Urteil des BVerfG erschwert dauerhaft die Umgehung der Schuldenbremse. Die Bundesreg. könnte nun für 2023 oder 2024 erneut eine Notlage erklären, aber das könnte auch vom BVerG kassiert werden. Dann bleiben nur Ausgabenkürzungen oder höhere Steuern. Da stehen schwierige Verhandlungen an.
