So it turns out I’m the first Conservative MP to join Bluesky…
What an incredible 2024!

Thank you so much to everyone. These first six months have been an honour to be your Member of Parliament. I’ve loved every minute of it and I look forward to making sure that next year is even better.

Happy New Year and here’s to a brilliant 2025.

This week in Parliament I was able to highlight the amazing work of Freda and John Grace, whose Christmas lights display at their house in Sawtry is an incredible effort!

It was great to see their efforts congratulated by the Rt Hon Lucy Powell, Leader of the House of Commons.

Shocking to see Labour inviting and hosting an individual in Parliament who has now been charged as a member of a proscribed terrorist organisation.

Such a laissez-faire approach to security by Labour should be a concern to everyone on the parliamentary estate.
Labour MP hosted man charged with being part of banned PKK group in parliament
The Kurdistan Workers' Party, known as the PKK, has been a proscribed organisation since 2001 for its advocation of Kurdish self-rule through both political and armed struggle.

“A survey released by the Bank of England suggested that over half of firms were planning to cut staff as a result of the national insurance hike. Analysis by Deutsche Bank suggests that as many as 100,000 jobs could be lost.”

And yet Labour MPs champion this budget as “taking difficult decisions”.

How is there no space on the SPOTY list for Mark Cavendish in a year when he becomes the all-time greatest stage winner of the Tour de France against the odds; the icing on what was already an incredible sporting comeback?

Great to see that despite users insisting that Bluesky is friendlier than X, there are still sneering left-wing accounts who think that your Ghanaian surname is a source of ridicule.
Tbh Sue, if I had a surname like his, I'd probably have changed it by now. It's a bit of a gift to anyone who likes wordplay.
December 8, 2024 at 11:36 PM
The behaviour of people on Bluesky really isn’t any different to X.

Whilst many here might find it inconvenient, it’s interesting that none will challenge posts like that below because it supports their narrative.

I’m really not convinced that the behaviour on Bluesky is any different to that on X.

Only last week Luke Pollard was busy telling everybody that once they “see the detail” of the Chagos Islands deal they would support it.

Now it’s a “Day One” issue for the incoming Trump administration and potentially fundamentally changes US nuclear strategy across the region.

Well done Labour.

Absolutely excoriating stuff in today’s Bloomberg piece on how Starmer and Reeves incompetent first five months is hammering Labour morale.

It explains an awful lot about why you see such poor attendance from Labour MPs unwilling to defend Labour’s terrible policy offering.
— people across Labour, from Blairites to Starmer loyalists to the left, say the mood is low

— multiple MPs say they’re surprised how badly Starmer + Reeves have done

— it doesn’t look like they had a plan for office or a strategy to articulate it, MPs say

On @skynewsrss.bsky.social this lunchtime for the post-PMQs panel.

Asked why the leaders’ interactions are now so brief it’s important to highlight how evasive Keir Starmer is when the answer hasn’t been pre-approved by the Labour whips for a verbatim response read out from his folder.

Worrying that despite months of rhetoric pledging support for Ukraine, it is surely no coincidence that in the week of his big reset, Keir Starmer begins talk of “negotiations”.
Starmer speaks of a negotiated end to the Ukraine war for the first time in his Lord Mayor’s speech.

Recognition of how Trump’s victory has created a new reality.

“This year is on course to be a new record for small boat crossings. That has to change. So, when I say we must smash the gangs, I mean it.”

If Louise Haigh’s fraud conviction was for a pre-planned attempt to mislead police, as opposed to the mistake she claimed in her resignation letter, then she is still lying.

If Keir Starmer was aware and this had been fully disclosed, both he and Haigh have questions to answer.

The echo-chamber reaction on Bluesky to Louise Haigh’s resignation illustrates why this platform cannot be taken seriously as a place for political discourse.
November 29, 2024 at 9:09 AM
Keir Starmer has known about Louise Haigh’s conviction for nearly five years. The question should be why he appointed her and why it took press exposure for her to resign.

The arrogance of choosing to conceal this illustrates his utter hypocrisy on standards.

What other scandals is Starmer hiding?
BREAKING: Louise Haigh has resigned as transport secretary after Sky News’s revealed she’d been convicted of an offence related to a mobile phone six months before becoming an MP. Says it was a ‘mistake’ & she’s sorry to leave under these circs, doesn’t want to be distraction
November 29, 2024 at 7:22 AM
Louise Haigh hid her conviction, was sacked by Aviva for it whilst a Labour candidate and then disclosed it when appointed to the Shadow Cabinet in 2020.

Keir Starmer has known about this lack of integrity for nearly five years and said nothing.

What other secrets is he hiding?

Labour’s net zero zealotry places the onus of changing behaviour entirely upon the motor industry with no plan of how the Government plays its role.

Where is the plan to create national EV infrastructure to facilitate their plans? There is currently little incentive to switch to an impractical EV.

1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. That figure doubles to 1 in 4 if you’re black. If you have a family history of prostate cancer you’re twice as likely to be diagnosed with it.

As Rachel Reeves prepares to defend her budget (again), this week to the CBI, the ever-growing list of businesses, organisations and groups impacted by it illustrates just how poor it is.

Labour have eschewed growth in favour of a sugar rush tax grab that is clearly backfiring.

Last week people were frantically throwing Dan Neidle’s posts at me showing how the Family Farms Tax was entirely justified.

Now even he has changed his mind.
New data on farms and inheritance tax: a third of farm estates over £1.5m aren’t farmers but wealthy people avoiding IHT by sinking money into farmland.

The Budget hits farmers too hard and tax avoiders too lightly. It needs to change.
