Leaving Spotify can be difficult, that’s why we had @janus.bsky.social put together this guide to find a more sustainable way to release, discover, and listen to music so you can kick Spotify for good 😜

How To Ditch Spotify and Support Music in the Age of AI Slop
There’s no shortage of reasons to quit Spotify in 2025. Artists and fans have been departing the platform in droves because they’re fed up with the company paying artists virtually nothing, using algo...

Online age verification is a tempting idea. I'm a dad, I get it, but what's being proposed isn't just an ID check, it's a list of your kid's faces and data. A list in the hands of increasingly totalitarian governments, tech companies, and dysfunctional AI.

It's not protection, it's surveillance.
🚨 EVERYONE PLEASE RESKEET THIS FOR VISIBILITY!!! 🚨

A big coalition of LGBTQ+, abortion access, and human rights groups led by @fightforthefuture.org are organizing a WEEK OF ACTION this week against online ID checks, aka "age verification" laws.

THE TELEPHONE, my micro-short film starring Josh Neal, featuring a score by Joe Stockton, is now available to watch.
Shot this back in 2022 as my first film project here in Sweden. Give it a quick watch and let me know what you think.

Currently in the murky waters that is editing, which is both fun and frustrating. Also still raising money to help cover production and post expenses. We're £260 away from our £7500 stretch goal. Indie filmmaking, as always, needs all the help it can get. Details: tinyurl.com/FairyDustKS

I grew up working class. I remember drawing with short pencils my mum stole from work.

When I fell for film there were no video phones & 8mm/VHS was too expensive.

So I couldn't make films as a kid.

If I had a camcorder I would have made movies. If I had AI I would not have made movies. It would.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

You’re kidnapped. The characters from the last show you watched are coming to rescue you.

Pretty sure they'd be the abductors.

Vale Udo Kier.

ALIEN, if produced by Roger Corman (it nearly was). I imagine he would have gone with the working title STAR BEAST.

This is what happens when I can't sleep.

Great to see someone discuss deep focus and immersion, as well as critique the tendency to consider shallow focus as "cinematic". Other things too. Great video essay.

Related, I once went to a special screening of Tarkovsky's Stalker, one of my favourite movies, with a live performance by Lisa Gerrard & Dead Can Dance.

The music was exquisite, but it did not marry with the movie at all. I found myself detaching from the screen and daydreaming to the music.
Went to see Back to the Future scored live by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra last night.

Amazing but weird: after a while I stopped noticing the score was being played before me.

A reminder that cinema is a big collaborative art, an army of talented people, but when it's working you don't notice.
