Letter to the editor: Let’s keep the paths clear
East Sussex County Council are committed, through their transport plans, to encouraging wheeling, walking and cycling but the paths have to be maintained to increase their use.

Fairly similar to Eastbourne's Terminus Road, except cycling here is banned, for each and every phase ✋⛔
The trial of allowing cycling access on Sheep Street, Bicester’s main shopping street, has shown that cyclists slow down, stop, or move aside for pedestrians in 86% of cases. Pedestrians gave way to cyclists in the other 14%. 320 behaviour observations were made via mobile CCTV.

🚲 When Elaine borrowed an e-cargo bike, she wasn’t planning to rethink everyday travel, but that’s exactly what happened. From school runs to shopping trips, it became a practical alternative to the car, building confidence and cutting car use.

"Oxford's High Street booming, bucking national trend"

And this in a city where we've removed city centre parking and put in a congestion charge. Almost as if it's people who shop, not cars.

This week the Cuckoo Trail in East Sussex takes the crown as our Route of the Week! 👑

The 10-mile largely traffic-free route takes you from Heathfield to Polegate, passing through a mixture of broadleaf woodland, open grassland and pastures.

Earlier this week the ATE funding for the next four years was announced. Brighton receives £4.5m, which sees it near the top of the per-capita funding. Unfortunately, East and West Sussex are both towards the bottom end of the table:
Looking at today's Active Travel England (@ategov.bsky.social) updated funding allocations, here is the funding per person per year. I think it makes good sense to fund places that put money to best uses, I made this chart shows how that policy play out in practice. www.gov.uk/government/p...

Another year where the allocation for those with a low capability score ( eg 1 for @eastsussexcc.bsky.social £3M ) get less than those other 'Shire counties' who get £10M to £30M. The money follows those who deliver !💰💷

E-bikes help more people travel in a healthy and sustainable way. However, illegally modified e-bikes and unlicensed e-motorbikes pose serious safety risks due to the dangerous speed they can travel at, and risk of fire from unregulated batteries. 1/2
