So..."Freedom of Speech" is now defined as meaning you can't critique America, capitalism, Christianity, law/immigration enforcement, or someone's notion of "traditional" views.

This is some Orwellian 1984 Big Brother shit.
Our new golden age of free speech, where opposition to immigration enforcement can trigger a federal investigation

Watching Del Toro's Frankenstein and...not loving it.

It's beautiful, but I suspect I'm too familiar with Shelley's novel to fully appreciate this film. If this was an entirely original story, it might work better for me.

I'm back on my "wtf, weather?" thing.

The other day, it was -9F. I mean, actual -9F.

The forecast for Xmas day is currently 64F

In what will only be truly appreciated by people who teach Intro to Comp on a regular basis:

The final persuasive essay drafts are in. ALL my students submitted work. ALL their papers have real theses. ALL their Works Cited pages are formatted correctly. NOBODY seems to have plagiarized / used AI.

I'm so sad about the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer, and that they lost their lives in what sounds like a double homicide committed by their son Nick makes it even more horrible.

May their memories be a blessing. :(

We had a particularly good batch of latkes this year. 😋

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate! 🕎

The man who tackled one of the Bondi Beach shooters is a Muslim fruit store owner named Ahmed Al Ahmed. He risked his life to end the attack on Jews celebrating Hanukkah on the beach. May the Most High protect and heal him and bless him abundantly for his righteousness.

This is apparently my Indiana weather posting app now.

Snow started early, and it looks like we're going to get 4-5 inches before it stops.

Back in the day, I would have gone out to shovel that amount without thinking twice. So would B.

Now...we've got a guy. :)

Still trying to encourage my arthritic 16 year old dog Penny to jump up on my bed is like someone saying to arthritic me, "Come on, Beth! You can do it! You can climb up a rock face climbing wall."

Sorry, Penny.

This year's Holiday Baking Championship on the @foodnetwork.bsky.social is terrible. I hate the team play, I hate the challenges, I hate that they've dropped the preheat, and now letting last week's winning team steal a player? Ugh.

Well...it looks like the weather forecast was right. It's been snowing steadily since 6:30 am or so, and the hourly forecast suggests it's going to keep snowing until...

...midnight???

Oh dear.

Cast your mind back to when you were child...

If your family served Cranberry sauce with the Thanksgiving meal, did you eat it or did you think it was yuck without trying it?

B and I - who both like cranberry sauce now - were in the latter group.

Important information for @lunaris1013.bsky.social
Just for clarification, when you talk about it:

Gävle is pronounced "Yeah-vleh", not gav-la, gev-lee or gea-vley.

How many famous quotes from movies are not actually quotes from movies?

The first 2 that come to mind are "Play it again, Sam" (not from Casablanca) and "Luke, I am your father" (not from The Empire Strikes Back)

Without seeing if there's a list somewhere, can you think of other quotes like that?

I just read the whole Wikipedia article about the 6-7 meme, and still don't understand what it means.

In related news:

Two bears are sitting in a bathtub. The first one says, "Pass the soap." The second one says, "No soap, radio!"

I guessed incorrectly about whether the snow would stick.
November 9, 2025 at 9:55 PM
It's actually snowing. Where am I? Minnesota in 1968? :)

I'm guessing the snow isn't really going to stick, but still. Anyway, it's giving me a chance to test out my brand new windshield cover.I'm hoping it works for ice/frost, too, because scraping ice before work isn't fun.

Sunday and Monday have lows of 24F forecast.

The forecast for the following Saturday - November 15 - has a high of 69F.

We're living in wild times, and I'm fairly certain it isn't a good thing.

I live in the Midwest, and my state had no elections this year. but every neighborhood I lived in during my years in NYC (Greenwich Village, East Village, Astoria, Cobble Hill) voted for Mamdami. I'm taking the win. :)
It’s a trifecta: VA, NJ and NYC, Democrats all win. As for Mamdani, voter turnout is massive, a great sign for democracy.

Those of you who like the Billy Joel song "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" -

If you always sing along when you hear it, do you sing "Brender and Eddie" instead of "Brenda?" I do...every single time. :)

Frog and Toad ate many cookies, one after another.

“You know, Toad,” said Frog, with his mouth full, “I think we should stop eating. We will soon be sick.”

“You are right,” said Toad. “Let us eat one last cookie, and then we will stop.”

How do so many people not know their own email address? Just now, i was just sent yet another not-for-me email, from a couple booking tickets to a Polish film at a cinema in Dublin.

Hope they don't miss the film.
