I love that getting a toddler to eat is entirely a marketing problem

If there's the slightest hint of 'bits' on the food, it becomes completely inedible

But if I hype it up and it comes in a special jar called "furikake" (which is basically ONLY bits), it's the best thing ever

On 26 Jan 1788 the British invaded lands of a couple of First Nations. There's over 300 Nations on this continent, so 100s of invasions occurred over many decades. There were Martu people in 1964 who'd never heard of white people. Invasion was not a single day. Colonisation is not a single event

1 man killed by a king hit, government introduced new legislation within days.
2 or more women killed every week at the hands of partners or former partners and …. crickets.

Now I remember that exact image from reading the r4ds book years ago, guess it bit me until now!

I had just written a for loop that compared the sums of all the columns in two supposedly identical data frames just for a quick test and I was surprised that one had a sum of "nearly 0".

Here I am writing #rstats functions for my colleagues to extract results from Stata log files for Quarto reporting

Little do they know Quarto is the gateway to R, I'll have them hooked in no time!

"str_replace_all() ... now receives all values in a single character vector instead of being called once for each individual string"

omg huge improvement, love this! str_replace_all() is super handy
ICYMI: stringr 1.6.0 🧵

This update brings performance gains and new fns for string manipulation in #RStats.

Highlights include: Faster replacements with `str_replace_all()`, 🐫 new case tools to camel, snake, and kebab, case-sensitive str_like(), & more.

July 6 to 9, put it in your calendar!!

I can't wait for the day I get to go to another useR! conference. I had such a good time at the 2018 iteration despite knowing basically no R at the time!

If you can go and you're an #rstats user (or thinking about learning), I highly recommend going
We are thrilled to announce Dr. Kari L. Jordan (@drkariljordan.carpentries.org) as a Keynote Speaker for useR! 2026 in Warsaw! Dr. Jordan will from her knowledge and experience deliver her talk: "The Work Behind the Work: Sustaining R Through Community"

Coming in at $32/200g these Colombian beans are the most expensive so far but the flavour profile is insane

Maybe I get the cherry notes on the after-taste but the initial flavour isn't like any other coffee I've had

4/4 already but the grind needs adjusting
