My wife read one of my blog posts recently (a rare event 😂), and told me that it read like AI wrote it. She meant is a compliment and didn't understand why I was mildly offended for a second 😭.

Alright, here’s my thoughts on everything we saw at the State of Play!

This was one of the best showings Sony has had in years, and there were SO MANY fun games to write about!

Sony’s Latest State of Play Felt Like a Classic E3 Showcase
Sony’s recent State of Play event tapped into a magic we haven’t felt since the days of E3.

The rewards for winning runs in Mewgenics are so paltry that it barely feels worthwhile to do so right now.

Im almost better off returning to home base after I complete the 2nd of the 3 areas with how things are currently constructed. Hopefully that changes! Ive only done 9ish runs so far.

I definitely have several issues with Mewgenics, but I've been completely locked into it the past several nights because the strategy combat is so good.

There's a pretty wild amount of options, and it changes every run, so it keeps you constantly adapting. It's not like much else out there.

The open world in Nioh 3 is so fun, but it's weirdly taking away from the highest highs of the game for me.

Im close to clearing the first open world area, and no boss or enemy has taken me out more than once since the demo boss. I'm cruising and barely having to try.

Last bump. Appreciate the support as always!

Coming next week, my review of MIO, finally. Also hoping to do a mini podcast episode. Been having a tough time fitting those in with everything else!
I didn't expect to write this article. Yesterday's State of Play was only faintly on my radar.

Then Sony went and delivered one of the best SoPs that I've ever seen.

Tons of big surprises and excellent looking gameplay. Here are my 10 biggest winners.

Bumping this up!

Also, a confession. When I make lists, I like to be random with the title picture I select.

Sometimes its the #1 game... sometimes it's #3, sometimes it's #5!

Gotta mix it up so the true Big Nerd Sickos don't know what's coming next.

Movie #2 of 2026 watched: Wake Up Dead Man

I'd put it at #2 for the series. It was a fun ride! But thr religion vs atheist stuff may havr been my favorite part.

I have one game from State of Play that just blew me away well above anything else. But I feel like it's getting very little discussion. I kinda understand why, but I'm excited to hype it up more tomorrow
February 13, 2026 at 2:58 AM
Son of Sparta trailer looked great. But PS5 shadowdrops just don't hit like Xbox ones for me.

It's probably good, but I'm always tepid about paying money to play a game that no one has touched yet. I gotta wait a few days.

If it's free (game pass), then I have no problem jumping in immediately.

OK. I went dark to stay spoiler free.

State of Plays rarely move me much. But that was amazing. An all timer. Off the top of my head, I am not sure there's ever been a better State of Play.

Frantically pivoting to write about it for tomorrow instead of my original plans!

I did a whole ass top 10 list for this in 2024, though it was 76 or lower.

Also, Rematch would now be my #1 on this

I once wrote an entire article about how 7/10 games are good.

But this is also very true. There's more 8/10s and 8.5/10s than ever before. We don't have more 9s than ever before but the "middle class" has grown more wealthy if you will.

7s are good... but they often dont feel good enough.
Obviously 7/10 isn’t bad but we are swimming in an endless sea of 9/10 and 10/10 games. Hard to justify playing those with out limited amount of time.
Can we talk about how fucking ridiculous this is getting...

7/10 games are not bad, they're not even mid, they're good. I thought we were moving past this mindset last year. Or also taking reviewer scores seriously. This is not even just grifter channels doing this but also Nintendo fans.

My next Game Awards predictions will probably have Mewgenics nominated for best soundtrack.

Cannot believe how good it is. And its insanely memorable because it's so weird and funny. So I do not think voters will forget about it.
February 12, 2026 at 3:17 AM
My biggest problem with Mewgenics is how insanely crowded the screen is at all times.

You can't rotate the map and there are many times that enemies are blocked from vision by my own cats or by all the UI elements. It's very messy and can take time to parse through.

Coming later this week, my review of MIO.
This blog often references fatherhood, and I love to rank things, so I finally went all the way with it and ranked my 10 favorite children's books ever as a fun break from gaming content.

There are so many special memories in these 10 books for me.

Bumping this up!

I created a new category on the blog which is not listed on the main page. It's called "life" and it puts together my stuff that has some non video game elements to it for anyone interested 🙏.

And... it does not disappoint 😭

Games that I have never played on my Steam Deck but really need to.

I've played all these, but they all feel like they'd hit harder on a portable system.
