I love that the folks in Norway didn't want to just deprive Donald Trump of the Nobel Peace Prize he was so shamelessly hungry for, they awarded it instead to someone he would hate, a decent Latina woman working against undemocratic authoritarianism. Nice touch. 👨‍🍳👄

The HDI is the Human Development Index, is a measure of how developed a country is by the United Nations. The index uses three broad measures: Long and healthy life, Knowledge and Standard of living. For some time Iceland, Norway and Switzerland headed the rankings and America is currently 17th.

Norway is my ideal of a nation state. Deciding to nationalise profits from anything dug out of the earth and sea because they know in their bones that we all live in a society. Not an economy. The economy is a construct established to serve a society as best as is possible. That and their integrity.
