Okay, I think after playing the first level over and over again, I think I'm starting to realize I was just picking cars / characters that didn't match my play style very well.

King's Field 1 isn't a particularly good game
It's not pretty, it's not fun, it's kind of monotonous and a bit boring at times

akuma-kira.itch.io/basilisk-2000 this isn't on steam but it's obscure enough i think it counts. this and its predecessor basilisk snes are incredibly unique and i've never played anything quite like them. the execution is a little off at points but it's hard to care when they're so distinct

Basilisk & Basilisk2000 are IMO Akuma Kira's best works to date, but you might need a guide or some help with 2000, it's sort of an ARG thing.
imscared is definitely on the better end of meta-horror stuff.
